My friend is on probation for discharging a firearm (he shot it in the air on the fourth of july), and possession of cocaine (cops planted a piece of crack on him, yes this is true), he was placed on probation for 18 months, but I am wondering if he can join the airforce still? What are the rules on joining the airforce on probation and with a criminal record?

Same goes for all military branches....you must be cleared of all criminal issues prior to enlisting. The AF is the least likely to take your friend at all even when he is no longer on probation. He would need waivers for all criminal issues that he has and even then there is no guarantee he will be able to get these waivers to enlist in any military branch. The firearms discharge raises serious common sense issues that your friend doens't seem to have much of and then you combine that with drug use. Sorry nobody is going to believe your conspiracty theory on the planted crack cocaine. He or you really need to do some growing up it seems and the military doesn't need another person to babysit through life. I have had waivers for a lot less get declined on people I have tried to put into the military. Unlike popular belief the military is not the dumping ground for people with criminal problems, that's what jail is for. You need to be a pretty good person and law abiding citizen overall to enter the military and especially the AF.

Air Force is very selective so I don't know if they will even consider him. I don't think you can do anything until after probation. With a criminal record your friend will need waivers. Best thing to do is contact a recruiter and ask.

Possesion of cocaine is permanantly DQ, no matter if the cops planted it or not. So sorry it just is not possible. And as far as being on probation you need to finish it out then attempt the ARMY

Seeing as how the Air Force will permanently disqualify a person who admits to ONE usage of marijuana, you answer your own question. Your "friend" is a felon which makes him ineligible to enlist, on probation which is also a disqualifier and has a second felony for marijuana (The military does not view marijuana as a misdemeanor, no matter how small the quantity). Tell your "friend" not to waste any recruiters time, as he will never be allowed to join any branch.

He has to go to his recruiter tell him everything, and talk to probation officer about his intentions.. If he scores really high on his tests and passes the physical they might still let him in to the service, with a waiver.

he will not be allowed to enlist until the 18 months are up. and he can pretty much forget the Air Force. it will require a waiver, and they are not granting many at all. he has two strikes against him: the firearms charge( which might keep him out of all branches period) and the drug charge.

Felony=No Enlistment in Air Force, I'm in the Navy and there was two persons with felonies in my bootcamp division. Of course they didn't tell the Navy. During boot camp they ran everyone's background and the charges were found and they were punished and separated for fradulent enlistment.

Yeah, the cops planted it... RIIIIIGHT!

Considering the charge was cocaine possession... I doubt it but check with a recruiter just in case. The firearm thing is waiverable but I doubt they'll do that for the drug charge.

No way they are gonna take him. I don't think any branch would, but especially not the Air Force. They are very picky about who they sign up.

No, he can't - unless he gets special permission, he can't leave the state while on probation.
