Yes, they do and, in the early days, Christians have a real problem realising why. They just hate God, that's all and if they could sterilise all mention and all trace of God out of this world, they reckon it'd be a better place to be.

Well, there you are! The Bible says that in the last days there would be plenty of God-haters around, so we'd better get used to it. We have to share the real estate with them and try not to incite them. After all - think - you're not going to convert anyone against their will and riding over their anger. They've made their feelings plain, they're not open, so go to the others who ARE open.

It's not a lot of use arguing with these people, because the thing is settled as far as they are concerned. You are banging your head against a brick wall. Just for once, give in and give everybody some peace.

It really helps to realise that we Christians are not solely responsible for witnessing to Christ in the world. There is another who witnesses and he can get where we cannot, for he knows man intimately, unlike us. How many people have actually been converted apart from hearing someone preach at them, as a direct result of contact with the Holy Spirit? I reckon an awful lot. So, relax and stop trying to convert the world. God is not driving you in this.

I know that we all like to regularly give thanks to God and mention the name of our Saviour - being vocal as we've been taught to be - but it's not always a good idea. Among like-minded people and those who will not take offence, go ahead, but if your giving of thanks sounds like earache to someone else, then do not contend with him over it. Just let your life and all that you are speak where you words cannot. You will find that you are not constrained, for Christ should come out of your very being, if he is truly in your life teaching you how to live.

We have to handle unbelievers carefully, kindly and with respect. Don't rave at them, and don't taunt them with hell - it's not nice, it's very unloving. Walk with wisdom towards them that are without, as Scripture says and do not place a stumblingblock before them.

People should not get mad if you mention Jesus or God in a reasonable way.

If you are insulting the person, however, and claiming that the person will burn in hell for all eternity for not believing in Jesus or God then you deserve a punch in the nose (How would u feel if I said you and your family were going to suffer for eternity because you didn't worship Dave the God of Gods)

Only if you try to assert that they are reality and use them as a reason to force your morality into laws (like forbidding same sex marriage) or to justify an unsupported hypothesis being taught as science.

Why did you mention Jesus to them? Did they ask about him or did you just pop his mane in a conversation?

It is what happens when you insult someone that a person loves. Go tell them that their kid is ugly and see what happens.
