Make a lemon tonic then spray the lemon tonic on the dogs' skin, it repels fleas and doesn't dry out their skin, and doesn't smell bad, make the lemon tonic by the gallon and add 1/2 oz of tea tree oil to 1 gallon of the lemon tonic, do this because diluted tea tree oil is a natural anti-septic and if i'm seeing fleas the dogs have already been bit.

Lemon Skin Tonic:
bring 1 pint of water to a boil and remove from heat add 1 thinly sliced lemon allow to steep overnight or all day strain liquid

The liquid can be put into a spray bottle, squeeze bottle or just a container. Apply liberally to the coat of the dog and rub in so that the skin is wet.

Lemons are very good for the skin and contain limonene which is an effective insect repellent. The limonene actually dissolves fleas' waxy coating causing dehydration and death of the flea.

You haven't done everything, not by a long shot. Was the pill you got Capstar? This is not a preventative. It will kill fleas on your dog within 12 hours, but it will not stop more coming on to the dog, which is what happens if you don't use a preventative.

Flea baths also do not work - please don't waste money on any of the stuff you can buy in stores. Just get some Frontline, or Advantage, or Revolution for your pet, and treat your house properly too - i.e get a proper treatment, a spray, from a vets.

No garlic is not effective, although the myth persists that it is. I'm sure plenty of people on here will tell you to use it. I wouldn't feed it to my own dog personally, since it's known to be toxic in large amounts.

There are two thoughts on garlic for dogs..some experts say garlic is not good, others say it's ok..[garlic is in the onion family, onions are NOT good for dogs]. My dog Honey will be 6yrs. old soon- I have been giving her Brewars Yeast w/garlic pills everyday since she was 12 weeks old. The pills are good for the skin, shiny coat, cuts down on shedding, and does something to the blood that doesn't make it tasty for fleas, ticks and mosquitoes.[Frontline once a month helps ,too.] In all those years, she has never had a flea or anything else. And I live by and go to a densely treed park everyday. Brewers Yeast w/garlic can be gotten at any pet store...Hope this info is helpful to you and your baby...

I rescue dogs as well. I always give mine a bath but that won't kill the fleas. Then I treat with Frontline, get it for the dog from the vet and use the right size. Then you need to vacuum and clean your house thoroughly to get rid of any flea eggs that have dropped. Also clean the dogs bedding.
As for garlic I give my own personal dogs a pet tab of brewers yeast and garlic everyday and I do believe it helps protect from the fleas and also keeps them healthy.it seems to build up in the system so I rarely have to treat with frontline more than once a year.

I've heard garlic works for fleas, but I don't know for certain. My dogs haven't had a breakout of fleas. I purchase Capstar from the Vet, and it really works. It gets rid of fleas in 30 min. I have been using it for four years. It's expensive.

Essential oils are all natural and mild and will leave the coat healthy and vibrant. For centuries, they have been used in a variety of ways to repel fleas, ticks and other biting insects.

These are nature’s repellents. They ward off unwanted hitchhikers. Most common ingredients are citronella, cedar, eucalyptus, lemongrass, and lavender. Essential oils are specially formulated to repel fleas and ticks without using insecticides. They are great for misting your dog’s legs (and your own) any time that you go out where fleas would be likely to be found. They have a lot of other uses too (read this). They are a repellent, not an insecticide, though.

I saw this on CSI or some crazy show like that. They say yes but i think it is real garlic not garlic powder!Garlic powder is fake and isn't all garlic. I would ask a vet to see what the best is but hey why not. Read the ingredients also and if anything weird stands out then don't put it on your puppy. Also if he eats it it iwll hurt him.

yes! garlic does help to keep the fleas away on animals. Don't go putting garlic on you pets though. Just go to your pet store and but brewers yeast vitamins for animals. Put it in their food or you might have to give it o them.

No. Thats a myth. Too much garlic will poison your dog though as it is toxic in all but minor quantities.
