Music at www.jamendo.com is released under the Creative commons license, so it's free and legal.

Unfortunately, a free legal song is an oxy-moron. They technically do not exist. The closest you will get are free songs that are given away to download from a site or service you are already signed up for. But those are few and far between. Almost all music is copyrighted by the music label that the artist belongs to, therefore cannot be legally owned without paying for it in some way. The iTunes Store is an example of a place that gives away free downloads, but you don't get to choose the song, they are random "new" songs every week. Sorry Charlie, but that's how it goes. Music companies have become real strict about their music and now all music is under protection from the FBI.
