God is as near to you as if He were sitting next to you, just tell Him what you need, tell Him you are so sorry and He will take care of it, He loves you so so so much, more than you can imagine, and remember, when He casts your sin as "far as the East is from the West" that is as far as it can get, it is completely gone !!!!!!!!!! And then sin no more in this area, or at least be willing to work on it, remember the story of the Samaritan woman at the well who said " I have no husband" (not telling Jesus the truth and everything but the truth, and then Jesus said" no, but the man you live with now is not your husband and you have had 5 husbands", oops, we can't lie to Jesus/God, He knows it all, so just tell Him you are sorry and ask what He wants you to do and if penance is due, He will help you. But also remember, there are natural consequences to sin, if you murder someone, end up in prison, you can have God's eternal forgiveness, but you will stay in prison. God is all forgiving, why else do you think He would have sacrificed His own son to die in a horrific way when Jesus never ever sinned and yet we sin like all day long and we don't have to die on a cross with nails in our hands only because Jesus died for the sins we repent of, but we have to let God know we know we sinned. Recognizing the problem is 50% of the solution :) God LOVE YOU IMMENSELY

I believe that God gave the priests a special job. Through confession they can forgive our sins and therefore God would forgive us too.
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." John 20:19-23
But I also believe that we have a merciful God and he can see what's going on in our hearts. if we are trully repented of what we've done, he will not abandone us.

The one who is genuinely repentant doesnt care for what the consequences of confession to the wronged will be. You need more remorse for God to forgive you I think. Sorry for the bluntness but thats so.
As for God he will forgive you and for that one need not confess anywhere -God resides in your heart and sees all and maybe if your remorse is genuine he has already forgiven you but today if you dont face the consequences of your fault ,time will bring you at the same place where you had escaped from and whether you want or not you will have to face the consequences then. You cant escape facing the wronged because its them and not just God to whom you are answerable

Forgiveness, at its simplest, is your choice to let go of the ill things you've done/thought/said and sincerely commit to living a different way.
It's not for anyone else's benefit except yours; it's how you 'clean up your soul'. So, nobody has to be there, nobody has to hear it.
The confession is, for Catholics, a disciplined way of handling this. There's something about saying out loud what we've done that we know to be 'wrong' or 'bad'. You can do that for yourself during prayers or meditation.
So, once you've cleaned up the mess, what then? I suggest filling up the clean space with gratitude. It's been my experience that gratitude and resentment/sinning cannot coexist. If you're grateful every day, you'll be far less likely to 'fall off the horse'.

Like everything else that depends who and what you believe. Different religions have different rules.
Personally I don't think ones needs to. I confess to whom I have wronged and to God and then I do my very best not to repeat the sin.
I don't understand the need for people on here and in the real world to put down others religious beliefs. Have some respect people!

When it comes to confession of sin, believers are told in 1 John 1:9 to confess their sins to God. God is faithful and just to forgive our sins as we confess them to Him. James 5:16 speaks of confessing our trespasses “to one another,” but this is not the same as confessing sins to a priest as the Roman Catholic Church teaches. Priests / church leaders are nowhere mentioned in the context of James 5:16. Further, James 5:16 does not link forgiveness of sins with the confession of sins “to one another.”

To receive forgiveness, you, as well as anyone seeking spiritual peace, must accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. He is the only intercessor between God and man. Only His blood atones for all sins of the world. He is the sacrifice that God has provided as in the story of Abraham and Isaac. All you must do is ask God in prayer to forgive you for the wrongs you have done, and ask it in the name of Jesus. Also, you are talking about a confession box...sounds catholic to me, you may want to find a better representation of the Christian faith than catholics, they do to many things that go against Jesus' teachings.

God is a forgiving God. God is Love.
God knows your heart, and the desires of your heart.
If you truly want forgiveness, you are forgiven.
The next step is the hardest... forgiving yourself.
After recognizing the harm you may have caused, have you forgien yourself? That is the struggle that is the most difficult to overcome.
Accept forgiveness....from God, other people, and yourself.
God bless you.

As Catholics, we believe the priest is G-d's agent on earth (as Jesus told the apostles: "Whatever sins you hold bound on Earth will be held bound in Heaven..." Personal Reconciliation is an integral part of Catholicism, whereby the sinner openly yet privately acknowledges transgressions. It removes the falsity of group confessions where persons go to be absolved without truly admitting guilt (Say Amen sisters!). There is no absolution with personal request for the same. In their belief in communal confession, the Prots and the Jews have got it wrong.
