Creamed Cabbage...buy a bag of shredded cabbage, mix together 1 pt. sour cream, 2 Tbsp. sugar, 1 Tbsp. white vinagar and a pinch of salt. Combine all and mix well. Allow to sit in fridge for several hours. Taste and adjust ingredients. Add some milk or cream if too thick. Tasty, a family tradition at Thanksgiving.

I just saw Paula Dean make this an it looked so simple and yummy. You just take a can of whole berry cranberry sauce, a can of drained mandarin oranges and 1/4 cup of toasted chopped walnuts. Mix it all together and you have a simple and yummy cranberry salad.
There are a few different ways that you can toast walnuts, like in the over or toaster over. I usually just put them in a dry skillet over medium heat, stirring them around every few seconds until they have that lovely, toasted smell. Done!

Cornbread dressing is so easy and delicious and you can do any variety according to your tastes.
Bake your cornbread first (we do two makings in iron skillets)
When the cornbread comes out, stop, immediately cut a big hung off the side, top it with butter and indulge. Yum!
crumble the rest of the cornbread in a very large bowl. add a sleeve of crushed saltine crackers and about 6 slices of crumbled toast.
saute celery, onions, and bell pepper if desired in butter/olive oil (season with salt/pepper) on the stove until soft.
mix them in with your cornbread when done.
add stock from your baked turkey, or chicken, or canned chicken stock will be fine if you don't have fresh. add enough to make it take on a nice wet but firm consistency.
my mom throws in couple of cans of cream of mushroom but, that's optional.
add poultry seasoning, black pepper, or anything else you want to taste.
bake in 400 oven till firm in center probably about 45 minutes to an hour
**I left out eggs! Put at least 3 eggs in your bread broth mixture.
Green bean casserole is also a favorite Thanksgiving dish. Recipe is on Delmonte can wrapper.

This recipe looks elegant, but it is very easy to put together.
RASPBERRY TRIFLE
1 pkg. (16 oz.) pound cake, cut into 18 slices or 2 pkg (3 oz. each) ladyfingers
2 pkg. (3.4 oz. each) instant vanilla pudding mix
1 jar (18 oz.) raspberry jam
1-1/2 pints fresh raspberries
Whipped cream and fresh raspberries, for garnish
Arrange one-third of sliced cake in the bottom of a trifle dish or large decorative bowl. Prepare pudding according to package directions. Place one-third more cake pieces around inside of bowl, using half of pudding to hold them in place. Gently stir together jam and raspberries; spoon half over pudding. Cover with remaining cake pieces. Layer remaining pudding and raspberry mixture. Chill. Garnish with whipped cream and fresh raspberries. Makes 8-10 servings.
NO BAKE STRAWBERRY CHEESE PIE
1 basket fresh strawberries, cleaned and sliced
1 6-oz pkg. Strawberry Jell-O
2 C. water
1 8-oz. pkg. cream cheese
1 14-oz. can evaporated milk
1 pre-made graham cracker crust
whipped cream
Place cleaned and sliced strawberries into a large bowl and refrigerate until needed. In a pot, boil 2 C. water. Once boiling, add Jell-O and remove from heat. Stir until dissolved and set aside to cool. Combine cream cheese and evaporated milk in blender; blend together until smooth, scraping down side making sure there are no clumps of cream cheese. Pour Jell-O slowly into blender until well combined and very smooth. Remove strawberries from refrigerator, pour Jell-O mixture over strawberries, combine well and pour into graham cracker crust, chill 2-3 hours or until set. Once set, top with whipped cream and serve.
