Ok, I am a good-looking woman and I don't mean to brag about that. I work in DC and I like to smoke a cigarette every morning outside the train station. Each time, I have at least two or three men ask me for a cigarette or a lighter! I don't understand it. Do they mean to flirt? or simply there is cigarette shortage at DC?!!! Anyone brave can answer this question ;)

Yes, they mean to "flirt." There are many, also, who are to,
who are to "cheap," to buy their own pack, and only smoke
when they "bumb one" off someone else.
So. If you don't want all the flirting, with all the "moochers."
Stop buying all them cigarette's. Or smoke before getting to
the train. Or when someone asks for a cigarette. Tell them
you will "sell" them an extra pack, and see how fast, they walk

#1 - nobody needs bravery to answer this question to clarify a very simple thing in the smoking world. Given the details in ur qstn, I believe u r new to smoking or just a kid.
#2 - asking for lighter is very common globally. if they ask for a cigarette, then don't take it negatively, u just look very easy. so it may not just lead to flirt. it may go directly to ask for "..how much for that.." kind of situation.

They want a cigarette and you are hot. It's the perfect way to strike up a convo with you and even if you don't like them, there is a reasonable chance they will get a cigarette out of the deal.

wouldnt it be something if those men that are asking you for a cig, are really non smokers and just want to talk to you.
maybe you could do an expirement, and not smoke one morning, and see if men still come up to a a beautiful woman...
the whole point is that how would they break the ice?

One thing leads to another seems to be the thought that I have; even though I would never ask for a cig from anyone. If I were to ask you, Yes flirting would be my objective.
