For the record, I am just as capable as anyone in being insulting, but that usually comes at the defense of others.
I think we could all learn a thing or two from Our Little Princess.

Because it is easier not to show people how you feel. If you do you are considered weak. I finally grew up and realized it didn't matter to me what others thought. I only hurl insults if i feel it is truely warrented, and I never insult a stranger unless they are completely rude and out of line not to myself but to another. Ex: I was at the grocery store a few weeks ago and this lady was being completely rude to an elderly woman in check out that has arthritis and it was a horrible yucky day and so she was having trouble moving. The lady made the comment how it was pathtic how people couldn't have consideration for others and get the **** out of the way. I tapped her on the shoulder and said, I just love how you have consideration for your elders, I hope others treat you with the same respect when you're her age, and smiled sweetly. She turned 3 shades of red and looked down as the clerk and bagboy busted a gut laughing, and the old woman smiled and her eyes were just sparkiling. I was nice in how I said it, but sometimes such actions are warrented friend or not.

I guess random acts of kindness goes over the heads of too many, how sad to have watched this earth residents for my 56 years , and when I was in my first 20, random acts of kindness were the NORM, and that means it happend all the time, I'm ready to exit and get to heaven :) It seems our world's auto default today is "random acts of mean-ness" and I think it is brought on by corporate greed. Of course I believe there is a not so nice "force" behind it !!

Sweetie, I can do both. I can insult and I have great compassion. Love? No way. compassion and kindness, yes.
I was never a kind of person that ever insulted anyone until I started participating here.
Here, it goes both ways.
Oops, I lied. There are many people here I love, including you.
Romantic Love? NO WAY!!

I find it easy to show compassion by taking homeless people to lunch, and hurl insults at people who claim I don't have "morals".

Many people find it easy to insult others who can't defend themselves. It's cowardice if nothing else. It's a self promoting attitude that makes rude people look cool to themselves and a jackass to to the world.

I have to guard constantly against returning insult for insult, but you never know when a gentle word could help someone who needs it. Thank you for asking this question.

It's this annonimity on YA. It brings out all the people with personality problems and fears and gives them a place where they can take out their frustrations and act "big" and push people around. These are generally people who have low self-image and would not stand up for themselves in a face-to-face confrontation. But here they can be masters of the universe.

Guess it depends on the person. I find it harder to hurl insults than show compassion, myself.
I'd say it's harder to do either one than to show indifference.

Because, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. The bible says that whenever someone trys to do good, evil is present. Satan is always trying to hinder followers of Christ.
