It is the shape of the inner ear/Eustachian tube. It just isn't draining the normal fluid correctly. Years ago they took out tonsils/adenoids to help this. Then they started doing the tubes. Then they chose to do repeated doses of antibiotics. Now I think they are just giving things to help "dry up" the excess fluid and mucous.
As he grows and the shape of his face lengthens, it will get better.

Both of my kids have had many ear infections and the reason was that the angle of the ear canal did not permit proper draining. My son grew out of it by the time he was 6 and my daughters canal angle never changed. She has tubes in her ears along with minor hearing loss. With her we have been told she will probably have to have tubes the rest of her life but we have her ears checked often as to try and avoid any further loss of hearing. The ENT should be able to give you a better diagnosis on the future of your sons ears. Try and keep his ears plugged when showering or bathing and especially when swimming and it should help cut down on the overall infections.
Good Luck to you and your son.

Some babies are more prone to ear infections than others. It isn't anything that you did or didn't do that causes them. Have your husband ask your pediatrician if these things he is concerend about is actually a cause of ear infections or not. As for the first respondent....I've have a friend who's baby was exclusively breast fed and only occassionally recevied breast milk from a bottle and that baby had so many ear infections they had to put tubes in. I've also known other exclusively breast fed babies who have had periodic ear infections. I've also known formula fed babies who didn't have any ear infections at all or very few.

I used to get them a lot until I was about 9, the main cause in children is when a child gets a cold congestion spreads more easily to the ears due to the tubes being so much shorter in kids, if it blocks the tubes to the ears it can develop into an infection. My daughter used to get them a lot as well but grew out of them as her tubes grew (that's how the doc explained it to us lol) so he'll probably grow out of them in a few years time.

Infection is life's way of protecting the ear. Cause is accumulated toxins like mucous which gets dried. Eating more raw vegetables and clearing the bowels regularly by encouraging to actively play out doors, should improve health of ear, nose and throat.

Your ear canal is connected to the throat so colds and such can go straight to the ear plus he can have a perforated ear drum these are more prone to get infected.
Ask doc to examine his ears.

Often bodily problems are the manifestation of an inner problem. Perhaps he's listening to too much garbage (teachers, parents, friends, etc.), and just can't take it. Perhaps he's not listening at all.
Get him to do inner ear awareness. He needs to feel his ear from within.
He needs to just feel his ears from within as much as he can, and hold it as long as he can.
