This is a question for any one who has had or knows anything about this injury.

The doctor seems to think ive strained the muscle in my neck. My neck is tender and i get shooting pains from my neck, up to the back of my head, when i try to turn my neck to look in a different direction. The strain is actually twisting my neck so Im only sort of comfortable when I go with it and am left facing west even though the rest of my body is sitting normally.
Ive been prescribed something for the inflamtion, and to help me sleep as thats when its worse, when I keep in my head facing one direction for any lenghth of time..it feels like the muscles lock or harden, so i need to gentley massage it by very slowly moving my head and neck to either side.

(Question)
Im just curious if there are other things i could be doing at home to help or ease the discomfort?

I had it once many years ago. I had been laying a bedroom carpet, not a hard job except on the knees. Woke up the following morning unable to get my head up off the pillow due to extreme pain? I had to slid the lower body out and sit on the floor before using my hands to hold the head up and on my shoulders. Once up the pain was not too bad, but lying in bed seemed to make it worse? They gave me anti-inflammatory drugs and within a week it was much better. Lots of things you can do from hot shower, heat pack, massage and exercise.
