you have several options, you can join the french foreign legion, or you could join the Royal Irish Regiment like many other fine Irishmen do, the Irish Guards are also an option, just go to any careers office in Belfast or up north and you can join. The Royal Irish Regiment are deploying back to Afghanistan next year so if you want to see real action hurry up. My best friend in the Royal Irish was from dublin had other mates from cork, and my roots on my da's side are waterford. You do not need a visa or anything for this

And my mate from dublin was 26 when he joined with 3 kids and a wife, he was fed up being a security guard at woolworths in dublin, he ended up staying in for 26 years and is still in now as a commissioned officer MTO for a TA Bn.

To: Jimmy R below, formerly of the US &th Cav, I looked into some of the history of the US 7th Cav Pipes and Drums and was surprised and proud to see that in 1959 the 7th US Cav 2nd Recce Sqd formed a pipe band and went to Wuppertal in Germany to be taught by the Pipes and Drums of the 1st Bn Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (27th Regiment of foot), this regiment is one of the 3 parent regiments of my old regiment, The Royal Irish Rangers who were formed on 1st July 1968 by an amalgamtion of the Royal Inniskiling fusiliers, the Royal Irish Fusiliers and the Royal Ulster Rifles.

I also note that many Royal Irish Regiment emigrated to the US and jonied the 7th Cavalry, !! that explains why the 7th Cav are SO GOOD !!

Apply for a visa. You can earn your citizenship once you have joined. I have met many a fine Irishmen in the US Army. The traditions of the Unites States Army and the Irish go back for centuries. Our Freedom was won through the efforts of Irsh immegrants and the Irish are always welcome. The US Army has many fine Irish traditions they hold to this day. We are greatfull and very proud for the Irish and British who have served in our Army, they have only made it better. Oh, the US Cavalry Song is "Gary Owen". Also, look up the Wild Geese, as you will find that interesting.
