GunGuy and Slim Whitman are steering you in the right direction. The CMP however, will have extra requirements to purchase their merchandise. You generally have to be a member of one of their approved clubs, this will be an additional expense.

I bought from J&G sales and got excellent ammo. The only dowside is that they are out of Arizona. For me the shipping was terrible (I'm in wisconsin); as long as you live west of the mississippi river, their shipping should be more reasonable.

By the way, their ammo is Greek surplus. It is good, but it is M2 ball. It will have less pressure and velocity than newer commercial ammo. If you use it, you can expect it to have a different point of impact than what you currently shoot.

I buy my surplus ammo for my M! Garand en bloc surplus rounds at the attached web site. They have great customer service and the ammo is like $135 for 500 rounds. Reliable for plinking for sure and for.27 per round is hard to beat.

Have a blast, no pun intended.

Really surprised no one said it yet. Pick what shoots best out of your rifle - BOTH in grain size and manufacturer. I've shot quite a few different brands always looking for what shoots best out of different bbl. Sometimes it will be Federal... or Hornady... or the cheap off brand like PMP (So African). Example: My Encore shoots Ultramax Nosler ball. tips best. The Federal Barnes and NP as well as heavy match ammo is all over the place in the 223 bbl. Hornady not much better. 5" groups vs less than 1" is quite a difference!! elk 165-180 gr. generally best out of a 30-06, deer you can go lighter. 22 is cheaper .17hmr is more fun to shoot.

Surplus .30-06 comes and goes. Lately it's been mostly coming from South Africa. I prefer the 70's manf from South Korea.
Please don't support Wally World sending your job to China.
Ask your local gun dealer first. Then check with some on line sources. Surplus comes and goes fast so it doesn't hurt to get on a list.
If you send me an email I'll put you down to notify when it's available at a reasonable price.

Walmart > Remington has a rebate coupon you can also send in & save an additional $5.00 per box, but limited to no more than two (2)* boxes purchased.* You get back ten (10)* dollars by buying 2 boxes plus the original price you saved by buying them at Walmart.*

Go try Wal-Mart...they're usually the cheapest around. Many of them carry this caliber ammunition. Best of luck to you.
