When Jesus said:

But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob - God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

Which passage in the Old Testament was Jesus referring to where it said that:
God is not the God of the dead, but of the Living? -

He wasn't citing a passage, He was commenting on the passage He cited when He said "I AM the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - " which is Exodus 3:15. You see the passage in the original reads "Yahweh" or "Jehovah" (Hebrew YHWH - the sacred name of God) which means literally "I AM"; so what Jesus was pointing out was that when God represents Himself as "I AM", the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, He was stating that He (God) was in a current living relationship with them, thus proving life after death and intimating a future resurrection from the dead; something the Sadducees, who were questioning Him denied.

Jesus Christ pointed out to the Sadducees, a sect that did not believe in resurrection, that the writings of Moses in the Hebrew Scriptures, which they possessed and claimed to believe, prove there is a resurrection; Jesus reasoned that when Jehovah said He was “the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob” (who were actually dead), He counted those men as alive because of the resurrection that He, “the God, not of the dead, but of the living,” purposed to give them. God, because of his power, “makes the dead alive and calls the things that are not as though they were.”

"God is not the God of the dead, but of the living" was Jesus' answer in response to these saducees.

The Old Testament continuously refers to God as "the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob", and THAT is what Jesus meant by "Have you not read that which was spoken unto you ..."

Exodus 3:6 is where He was referring to the Old Testament.

God was saying Abraham, Isaac and Jacob even though dead are alive in Him.

After the crucifixion Jesus descended to Hades, Abraham's bosom, and took captivity captive and Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were lead to heaven with Jesus. Abraham's bosom was across from the place of torment in Hades. Jesus also defeated Satan on that Cross and He took the keys to death and hell.

Exodus 3:2 And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, "I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned." 4 When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am." 5 Then he said, "Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground." 6 And he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.

Luke 20:34 And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, 35 but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, 36 for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. 38 Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him."

God is the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob. God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. Nevertheless, God is still the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob. Not the former God, but the current God. That means that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are alive.

The Communion of Saints
When we die we are still conscious and we still have the faculties and duties that come with consciousness like praying for others and helping them.

When we are resurrected we will be immortal and perfect bodies as well as souls and if we die in grace we will reign with God forever since he is the living God and God of the Living which include Abraham, etc. We will be spiritually united with everybody in the Lord and physical marriage and procreation will cease.

Exodus 3:9

You will find multiple OT passages in which God is referred to as the God of the living. However, Jesus was making no reference at all to OT scripture.

This is simply a synthesized argument formulated by *7th Day Adventists*, *Mormons*, and *JWs* as just one of hundreds of artificial red herrings and straw man arguments used to refute other religions while supporting their own.

The argument is empty and pointless. It makes it's own conclusion by making false implications.

Peace, and may God guide you into the light.

That part of the verse is not a quote of the OT. "I am the God of...." is from Ex. 3:6 The later part, "God is not the God of the dead...," is Christ's words.

Sister Asleif,

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
