From what I'm able to determine, you're talking about part of your training in the field of psychology and counseling.

This is often a very difficult situation. Most counselors I know tend to be pretty accepting of alternative lifestyles as long as no harm is involved. The main criterion would be whether it is contributing to the health, well-being, and quality of life for the person. There many lifestyles, while not inherently harmful, do present challenges for the person and by extension, for their counselor. As a polyamorous person, I have often been a learning experience for my own counselor.

I've posted a few papers by one professional I know, Geri Weitzmann Ph.D., dealing with some of these challenges.

In cases where the client is exhibiting an obsession with the lifestyle, where it is getting in the way of the clients daily life or emotionally fulfilling relationships, I'd say their involvement in that lifestyle could be considered harmful/bad.

If you'd like to send me a message, I'd be more than willing to forward any direct questions to those I know in the counseling field.

Try thinking beyond what your question is asking.
What is the basis of good - who or how is that determined?
The same with bad.
Who or What in life determines authority over our life or the lives of others?
clue : look at the 10 Commandments, basis of American Law, ancient Jewish Law, found in the Bible, book of Leviticus ( in or near chapter 20 Moses on the mountain, God talking and writing on the stone tablets )

Once you consider this, I believe your answer to the assignment will fall into your lap.
