neither...
you think you have free will, but it's a nice illusion
ultimately you're a product of your genes, and your environment...you have choices, but they are a function of your brain, and you weren't in control of most of it's development either....but kudos for questioning...

You have free will, and God has a plan for all of us.
Secondly, you are right, but he does give us a period of time that we have to learn to listen to him and follow his orders. Just like a parent.
Why would that be a problem? All he is trying to do is teach us.
Children will make their own decisions, and they will learn that there are times that they should have listened to mom and dad.
Our relationship with god is like that with a child's relationship with a parent. I had a dream onetime about two years ago. I was having a really bad period of crisises at the time. I was pregnant, my husband was dieing and we were trying to get medical help, and our financial situation was dire. I had actually cried myself to sleep that night, he was in the hospital at the time, and I remember hearing a warm male voice saying, "Amie, why don't you come to me?"
"What do you mean," I asked. "I have prayed, I have pleaded and nothing has changed. I do not question your reasons, but why don't I have the comfort I seek?"
"I am your father, he told me, and all I want is for you to turn to me as you would a father." Than in the dream I curled up in his lap and cried. When I woke up I was crying, but I felt that I had so much peace. I'm not an overly religous person, and I don't believe I've ever had visions, or anything else, but since that day I have felt more at peace with myself and the world, because of that dream, and I do 'pray' per say, but when I do, I speak as if I was speaking with my Dad here, but this is the Dad that can help in the way that I need at the time, you know.
In the end basically it is something you have to figure out yourself, and eventually it will, just as eventually your daughter will do as she wants with her life, but she'll incorporate what you taught her and become the person that you knew and wanted her to be. As will you, you will do as you wish but you will eventually learn how to incorpate what he needs you to do at the same time.

I think you misunderstand the application of the concept of free-will. Each of us has the choice to accept or reject God, accept or reject Jesus Christ, to be obedient or disobedient, an so forth. God's plan for you, your daughter, and all believers is to be the best we can be in all things, with Christ central in our lives. There is no need to make it more complicated that that.

Its not that you have a set path that God has indowed upon you. He gave humans free will, which is why we live in sin. its that God knows ALL possible outcomes to your life. Whether you turn left or right while walking home, pick up that penny or not, punch that guy in the face or walk away, etc. He knows what each minute change would do to change our path in life. Its a hard concept for us to grasp because every millisecond changes what happens to us and those around us (look up the theory "the butterfly effect" for more info. Not the movies, but the actual theory and see how hard to would be to know ALL outcomes). So, God knows what we are going to do, but that doesn't mean we dont' have the choice to make it go one direction or the other.

Both Go together
If there is no free will God is the ultimate author, sustainer and persons responsible for evil and sin.
However, we can do nothing good on our own because of the heritage and debilitation of Original Sin.
Since Jesus the One Mediator and Perfect Sacrifice became fully human, died and rose for us and all humanity, we can cooperate with grace by the exercize of free will and by putting that graces will into effect by seeking in word and action to fulfill God's plan for us and all.
I find the 5 Points of Calvinism contrary to the New Testament,Apostolic tradition,Natural Law,moral goodness and common sense.

Free-will and gods plan can't exist together, neither can free-will and an omniscient god.

Free will is only the freedom of chosing your actions, not their consequences. You decide what you do, but in the end you may have no influence over your life
