Good question! Yes there is definitely a way not to be worldly anymore. The bible says: Love not the world neither the things that are in the world, if any man loves the world the love of the father is not in him. To love God is to hate the world and not be worldly. I used to be worldly, which means I use to wear makeup faithfully, jewelry (toe rings, thumb rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, ankle bracelets, rings and etc.Had to have my nails done just right, toes painted, hair had to be different all the time, maybe a weave with some color, clothes would be cute but showing off my body. These things are okay in their place, but they are of the world. These things are of the devil not of God. Worldly people cannot truly love God because they love themselves too much. When we cater our flesh to these things we love ourselves more than we love God. And to test yourself, see if you can eliminate any of those things without a struggle. That is how you will know if you love it. Anytime it is hard to give something up, we love it. God wants us to love him to where we will obey him and live for him, not for our flesh and this world. By God's grace I am not worldly anymore. I don't need any of those things and now I can save money and be truly happy living for God and not for me. We can still look nice without all the additions, when God created us He said it was very good. The devil will have us dissatisfied with ourselves and then we will start putting on and adding on to our natural beauty that God wants to show off. I am well pleased with my natural look more than my worldly one. Be content with your natural self. God bless you! Hope this helps.

Isn't it the attitude of the heart, the motive behind the act, that constitutes worldliness? For eample ... Lets say a woman wears a dress which she is sure to attract attention. That would be a case of being worldly. On the other hand, if you wear a dowdy, out-of-style dress to church in order to be thought spiritual, that is worldliness, too. The dress, you see, has nothing to do with it. The truth is that worldliness is not a matter of things, of doing this, or not doing that. But worldliness is a matter of the attitude of the heart, the attitude of life in thinking and dealing with things.

Worldly is the opposite of Spiritual

A "Worldly" person is more concerned with earthly concerns. Money, physical pleasures, etc.

That depends on the context of the phrase "worldly person".
Seeing as you put this question in the religion category, I'll assume it connotates secularity, as in a secular person, that is, somebody who is irreligious. But it could otherwise suggest sophistication, or describe someone who is social savvy, as opposed to being unrefined or uncultured.

Jesus answered your question when He said, "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?"

A worldly person goes after the things of men instead of the things of God.

A worldly person is one who lives to please the world, themselves, do what they want to do and thinks that people are the great authoritorian, when we are all imperfect people...If you turn your life over to God, and ask HIM to come into your heart and take over your life, you will NOT be disappointed!! Then you will be considered Godly, meaning you won't be "walking a worldly walk"....instead, you will "walk a worthy walk!!"

Trust me, it's the way to go!!!! ( :

God Bless!!

A worldly person is someone who puts the things of the world ABOVE the things of God. Are we willing to sacrifice ALL things for him if he asks it of us? Here are portions of a prayer that Jesus prayed regarding his apostles and the members of his church:

John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

He is saying that they are not of this world just as he is not of this world. The reason is because they have received the Spirit of God (the Holy Ghost) through the laying on of hands, and they lived by the spirit, being led and guided by it. Having received the Holy Ghost, they were no longer natural men, but had become spiritual men. The Holy Ghost was given AFTER they were baptized (there are several incidents of this in the Bible), after they made the covenant of baptism in which they committed to follow the teachings of Christ and live righteously according to the commandments of God.

Later, when men began changing the doctrines and broke off into different sects of Christianity, the apostles were always warning the saints NOT to follow after these false doctrines and to beware of those who preached them. They reminded the saints to live by the spirit which they had received (the Holy Ghost) and it would guide them so they would not stray. Unfortunately, many did not heed the warnings of the prophets of God.

Also notice verses 18 and 21. If God and Jesus Christ were really the same person, this would mean that Christ is asking that the apostles all become one person too. Or could it be possible that because they were all doing God's work-- teaching the SAME doctrines and commandments, performing the SAME ordinances, etcetera--that they were all one in PURPOSE? Which makes more sense? They were all supposed to be of the same mind and judgment, one in faith, one in baptism, one in SOUND doctrine, one in PURPOSE, which purpose was to teach the doctrines and ordinances of Christ for the salvation of all men.

The Spirit or Holy Ghost was given to all members of Christ's church after they were baptized. This is how they too, became spiritual men, because they lived by the spirit and did not follow the ways of the world.

1 Jn. 3: 24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the SPIRIT which he hath given us.

1 Jn. 4: 13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his SPIRIT.

1 Cor. 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Paul is saying that in order to understand the things of God, one must have the SPIRIT of God. Without the Spirit, no man can decipher the things of God (including scripture) because they can only be discerned spiritually. If men have NOT received the Spirit (Holy Ghost) by the proper authority, then they can only see according to their own logic and understanding; that's why there are so many interpretations of the Bible, and also why there are so many different churches.

Christ's church had specific doctrines and ordinances. When these things were later changed by men, there evolved different sects of Christianity, each teaching some of Christ's doctrines mixed with the philosophies of men. These became accepted traditions, and fulfilled the prophesies of the eventual downfall of Christ's Church because of members who started following these other teachings. Today Christians group themselves as a group of BELIEVERS in Christ regardless of denomination. But according to God and the teachings of Christ and his apostles, it referred to those who were baptized into his church and received the Spirit of God (the Holy Ghost) by those who had the proper authority to give it. God had a direct line of authority as the following example shows, and anything that deviated from it was neither authorized or valid.

The following is an incident where twelve men were baptized into some OTHER Christian sect and had not even heard of the Holy Ghost. Paul teaches them the TRUE doctrines of Christ, they believe him, and he re-baptizes them into the true church of God. He then lays his hands upon their heads and gives them the gift of the Holy Ghost (the Spirit) of God. This also shows the importance of having the proper authority, without it, it is done in vain, as this example shows.

So the only true way NOT to be a worldly person is to give up your will for God's will, follow his teachings and commandments, be baptized, and receive the Holy Ghost or Spirit of God by those who have the authority to give it.

We can all BELIEVE what we want, but that is believing according to our own desires, not God's. We must do what HE wants us to do, and to seek that out with an honest and sincere heart.
