While there is no question of the bravery and heroism of the Philippine soldier. History is replete with many examples of their courage and tenacity, I would hesitate to call them the "most battle hardened" in the world. Other than some internal security problems they have not fought any "battles" since the Korean War. The Korean war was over 50 years ago and most of their veterans have retired.
The insurgency in Mindanao is hardly a major war. Major battles in that insurgency are few and far between.
As to the fighting ability and courage of the average Filipino it is above reproach. Rarely has the Congressional Medal of Honor been awarded to a non-citizen serving in a "foreign" army.....but we gave one to a Filipino..... admittedly we gave Filipinos status as "American" troops but the fact remains they were a PHILIPPINE ARMY
During the Philippine Insurrection against America....the bravery of General Pilar was such that when he sacrificed his own life for his country he gain the respect and honor of his enemy.
During that same war Many American officers wrote of the gallantry and bravery of the Philippine fighting man. They often attacked well armed troops with nothing more than a bolo knife. There fierce fighting ability caused America to develope the 45 cal pistol because conventional weapons could not stop an attacking Filipino.
BRAVE.....Yes..... BATTLEHARDENED.....No

I am sure the only place you could have read that would have to have been in a Phillipine newspaper...lol
The British Canon Brigade is by far the hardest soldier mankind has ever known. This Brigade would make our Marines appear novice, I assure you...
If you truly enjoy military history, then research the British Canon Brigade and you will be astonished to learn just of the requirements to join. Each year thousands apply but the basic course is so rugged that hardly a hand number will pass to become a Canoneer...
There never has been and never will be a tougher Brigade. Unfortunately, as modern weaponry prevails, use for canons these days seems destiny for movies instead of war. Yet, the Canon Brigade still exists and it's requirements have never diminished despite the limbs being broken or torn away even in exhibition performances each year...
For those whose choice is to become a Canoneer, it is more than simply prestege, it is a culture of its own...

I would have to disagree. I've been in the Middle East for almost 4 years and haven't seen one yet, nor have I ever heard of your statement before. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to disrespect the Phillipine soldiers. Some of the most battle hardened troops that we've seen are from Israel, Turkey, US, UK, Australia, Poland, and Nepal.

i have never had the opertunity to serve or train with any Philipino nationals but i would find it hard to believe that they are better than the best that i have ever seen. the best that i have ever seen / trained with were the Rock Marines (south Korean Marines) and or the IDF (Isreali). It is my military opinion that the Rock Marines might be the baddest assed force on Earth. I know that myself and the other Marines in my unit learned quite a bit from them. They were the influence for the new USMC hand to hand training.

I was around Filipino soldiers for a few months in Iraq and I would have to disagree with you. They are largely incompetent. Of all the Asian soldiers I was around by far the best were the Mongolians.

Who considers them that? After 26 years in the military, I wouldn't place them in the top ten of Soldiers I've served with.

yes, i believe that is true. because the Philippine military is a bit short in their equipment and supplies. however, they have much more training in both jungle and urban survival even with the meager equipment they are being provided. they go to war not only with foreign enemies but also, with the local insurrections and civil policing they are force to face every day.
