The purpose of AKC and other reputable kennel clubs is to provide a record of the dogs parentage (and fruther back) and events (shows & trials) to test the dogs against others with recorded results.
The purpose of ACA and other "pet" registries is to provide a pretty certificate so the recorded pup can be sold as "registered".
When AKC started cracking down on puppy mills and banned some from registering dogs and started requiring DNA sampling on animals used heavily for breeding the "pet" registries sprang up like mushrooms- requiring much less doccumantation, some of them don't even ask who the parents of the pup are! For some reason some of the puppy mills have a problem in having to DNA prove a dog is of the parentage they say it is hummmm.......
Needless to say you have little chance a ACA registered dog is from a reputable breeder...

ACA is a bogus company used by puppy millers and unscrupulous back yard breeders. The AKC is the only official registration of a FULL BRED puppies of any breed (no mixes or dressmaker puppies allowed except for a few rare circumstances) like the "silver" Labrador retriever which is a mix of Weimaraner and Labrador. AKC for some unknown causes allows the "silver" blended breed to be register as a chocolate Labrador? When filling out an AKC registration kind for a puppy, there are 3 containers for color, BLACK, YELLOW or CHOCOLATE only. Unscrupulous men and women may play games with the AKC but the one ones I've heard of is within the case of a "silver" (Labrador with Weim, carrying dilute genetics causing a few wellbeing issues not seen in Black Yellow or Chocolate as it has to do with color dilution from the combination of the Weim.) These puppies should be viewed Weimadors which do exist and no longer be AKC registered. -Labrador Breeder/Hobbyist for 24 years. A passion, no longer a business. Connected is a photo of a silver that a puppy loved ones sent to be, they were appalled at the look of this canine. Silvers, Charcoals or Champagnes are not right colours of the Labrador breed and must be exempt from registration. For those who agree and care, write to the AKC.

AKC is a reputable registry.
ACA is a not a reputable registry.
Remember, just having AKC does not mean quality dog. And AKC does not mean a reputable breeder. All that AKC papers mean is that both parents were registered with AKC, so it is purebred. AKC is not the "breed standard police", they do not check if the dogs being bred meet the standards at all, they just keep the registry.
However, the lack of an AKC registration is a huge red-flag to warn you not to buy that dog.
AKC does not allow registration of mutts, nor does it allow people to registry a previously unregistered dog. Those are practices of the non-legit registries. AKC does not accept "new dogs" not from AKC parents unless they are cross-registered from another country's equivilent of registry.

ACA is a bogus employer used via domestic dog millers and unscrupulous returned backyard breeders. The AKC is the only respected registration of an entire BRED canines of any breed (no mixes or fashion designer canines allowed different than for some uncommon circumstances) like the "silver" Labrador retriever it is a mix of Weimaraner and Labrador. AKC for some unknown motives facilitates the "silver" blended breed to be sign in as a chocolate Labrador? whilst filling out an AKC registration type for a domestic dog, there are 3 packing packing containers for shade, BLACK, YELLOW or CHOCOLATE basically. Unscrupulous human beings might play video games with the AKC however the only ones i've got heard of is with regards to a "silver" (Labrador with Weim, wearing dilute genetics inflicting countless well being themes no longer considered in Black Yellow or Chocolate because it has to do with shade dilution from the combination of the Weim.) those canines might desire to be considered Weimadors which do exist and not be AKC registered. -Labrador Breeder/Hobbyist for twenty-four years. That is not true. In 45 years of breeding dogs. I have no respect for AKC what-so-ever. When I bred my champion cocker spaniel to someone else's dam-(long story short) it was found out that the poodle down the street was the father. the puppies were not at all pure breed. AKC went over my head and reg. the pups with champion papers- when the dogs were nothing more than mutts. ACA is the better way to go.

Really, it's like the difference between Lady and Tramp. Lady is a purebred with a traceable history, Tramp has no way to prove who his parents are. The AKC, while not perfect, actually holds it's members to a code of ethics, and has standards for it's members. The ACA will register ANYTHING, as long as the paperwork is accompanied by a check.

although neither registry guarantees you will get a quality dog... ACA, APRi, Universal Kennel Club, and all the other ones that claim to be registries for pets will guarantee you are supporting a BYB or puppymill
any decent or ethical breeder is either going to be with the parent club (for rare breeds) United Kennel Club, American Kennel Club, Canadian Kennel Club or any of the recognized FCI or AKC allowed registries
was just browsing the ACA site and the breeders they list are all Pet shops.... haha also funny if you pull up their forms they have a health certification form you can have a vet fill out.... there are ALOT of vets that I would never even consider trusting their judgement on a matter like that

With ACA you must have papers on the dog just like Akc. AKC is more expensive to register a pet. ACA you have to show a 3 generation of pedigree for the dog they only take AKC reg accompany by proof that dog ancestors was registered for 3 generations registered. ACA is the way to go if you have a pet the reg is cheaper and there are no hidden fees you pay $17 do register your dog. If your not doing shows then you dont need the AKC you are better off with a ACA registery
