Jesus pretty much made all water holy when He stepped into it to be baptized, did He not?
In practice, holy water is simply water that has been blessed and set aside for baptism, and its use in other ways goes back to our baptism as well.
Although use of sacramentals such as holy water isn't restricted to just Catholics, even if it's not your cup of tea it's not nice to disparage or mock those who do.
Note to Vot Anarж, above: Holy water isn't sold, silly. Nor is any blessed object allowed to be sold. There's no connection to the "church coffers".

Well, all water is holy, isn't it? But a ritual in the Catholic church. A symbol of the gift of life. Without water there would no life.

The Priest asks God to make it Holy. It actually has Jewish origins.

There is no way to tell if holy water is truly holy. It's just an illusion used by religions.

There's nothing magical about the water. It is used as a tool to not only baptize but to remind one of one's own baptism.
