Most gyms have a daily pass option -- it is not cheap, $12-$15/trip. You cannot get a free "trial" pass without showing ID with a local address -- they only give those out to legit prospective members.

You buy one. Nearly every gym sells daily or weekly passes. Also try a local alternative newspaper like the Village Voice - or an old standard like the Sunday NY Times - sometimes you can find gym specials in those places. Found a gym you like? Ask the about their current specials. Good Luck!

Absolutely!
Gyms want money and they do realize that there are tourists that come by and want to work out but can only do a short-term thing. I am sure the majors (New York Sports Club, Crunch, Equinox, etc.) have a week plan...or at the very least, daily.

Definately NYSC gives out a handful of temp passes that last make 3-4 sessions. Just walk and say your interested in the gym and want to try it out, they should hook you up immediately

Almost any of them do - but your hotel may be affiliated with a specific one, where you'd get a good rate. Call the hotel and ask.
