If it were my choice i would either get a LONG haired chihuahua or a Yorkie as i prefer long haired breeds. But then i have worked as a groomer so its expected! So out of those two a Yorkie.

However both breeds {if taught that the other animals are friends} are good with other animals as long as you watch them.

And i would say get a male - as a general rule males are easier to train and recover much faster after being neutered.

I used to foster mainly Chihuahuas but I had a few Yorkies....

Both are hard work and require lots of expensive trips to the vet. But you have to consider that Yorkies need a lot of grooming. You have to brush them every day otherwise they will become matted and smelly and also you usually have to take them for regular haircuts. Where as short haired Chi's only need bathed at the most once a month

Yorkies tend to have kind of narcotic behaviors like running around in circles while barking for hours and tend to get a bit nippy

Chihuahuas tend to have fear issues with new people and bark a lot.

Both are stubborn ad not the easiest things to train, especially when it comes to where to use the bathroom, but they both love to snuggle up and love you.

It's really up to you... I think you should see a chihuahua and a yorkie and figure out from visiting with them which one is more to your liking.

Chiuahua's are known to be yappy dogs. I believe this is due to the training not the breed. They do not like to be alone or be upstaged by other pets. My friend has one and a yorkie and the yorkie is much more laid back whereas the chiuahua is always right there whenever you go the other dog. It is your preference which matters. If I were you i would find breeders of both dogs until you find that one puppy you fall in love with. Problem solved.

Get a male Jack Russell crossed with a Yorkie, the fluffy version, not the short haired version as they are usually more yampy.
The are so cute and make really lovely pets.

They're both completely different dogs - my impression is that you are basing your selection on size?

Get in touch with the kennel club (ifyour'e int he UK - or the US equivalent) who will have lots of info on breed standards and temperament. They are incredibly helpful and reliable. Dont buy from a pet store - and ask to see at least the mother.

I originally wanted a small dog - like a chihuahua, and ended up with a Miniature Pinscher. They're very forward, have lots of charachter and look a lot like miniature dobermanns. Much less clingy than a chi and not as aggressive as terriers. He's absolutely perfect!!

Whatever you do dont get a dog unless you are 100% commited to looking after it for the next 10 years.

I don't know too much about Yorkies, except that they require alot of grooming. I have been a Chihuahua Breeder for a long time, and I presently own #13 little cuties of my own, who I adore, and would not trade for the world. I can tell you that they are very loyal, loving, protective of their owners and property, fearless, funny, graceful, love to cuddle, extremely smart, etc., etc. If you do have young Children, the only reason they say Chihuahuas are not good with young Children, is only because they are very fragile, and small Children if not taught how to handle them, can be very rough with them, and can hurt them very easily, so you need to always supervise the children when they are playing with Chihuahuas, so they don't get handled to roughly or stepped on. I have collars with little bells attached on all of mine and it really helps keep track of them, because with #13 little ones running around, you can't be too careful, and the bells give you an idea of where they are. No matter what breed you decide on, make sure you feed them a high quality food. I feed mine Canidae All Life Stages, and they have never been sick. When I take them all in to the vet, to get their check ups, the vet is alway's surprised at how healthy they all are, asked me what I am feeding them and when I told her, she told me to stay with the Canidae. It is very reasonably priced, very healthy for them and made for All Stages of the dogs life, so you can stay with the same food, from when they are puppies to when they become adults, and you don't have to worry about what food to switch them too, when they are old enough, you can stay with the Canidae All Life Stages. I think you should research both breeds, decide what fits best for you, and your lifestyle and take it from there. Good Luck! Hope this helps!

Get a Yorkie, the best dog ever. We have a girl, she is 10 now. What we will do when she pops off heaven knows. She is just like a baby, loves children and has not got a nasty bone in her body. goes everywhere with us loves the car, sleeps in the bed. need I say more.

Good Choices. I have had both breeds over the years, and love them all. But my long haired Chihuahua was a rescue, and was sooo very goood. She was beautiful, and smart. (and not a barker) But either way, you must pick what suits you best. Check out both breeds and see which one just fills your heart with love. Good Luck.

Usually, that's too long for me. I think it depends on the guy and his face though. Certain guys can pull off long hair and other folks can't.
