Murder is the least common form of violent crimes. All of the rates of crimes classified as "violent" by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (rape, robbery, aggravated and simple assault, and
homicide) declined steadily from 1994, reaching their lowest levels in 2005. Of those, homicide consistently represented only .1 victimizations per 1,000 population while the others ranged from rape, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault (in order of increasing occurrence.)
