LSD - Lysergic Acid Diethylamide -

A Highly potent hallucinogenic drug. An organic compound, LSD can be derived from the alkaloids ergotamine and ergonovine, found in the ergot fungus, but most LSD is produced synthetically. It can block the action of the neurotransmitter serotonin and produces marked deviations from normal perceptions and behaviour lasting 8 – 10 hours or longer. Mood shifts, time and space distortions, and impulsive behaviour may progress to paranoia and aggression. It has become a class A drug. - see below the history -

History-

LSD was developed in 1938 by Arthur Stoll and Albert Hofmann, Swiss chemists hoping to create a headache cure. Hofmann accidentally ingested some of the drug and discovered its hallucinogenic effect. In the 1960s and 70s it was used by millions of young people in America; its popularity waned as its reputation for bad trips and resulting accidents and suicides became known. In 1967, the federal government classified it as a Schedule I drug, i.e., having a high abuse potential and no accepted medical use, along with heroin and marijuana. In the early 1990s it again became popular, presumably because of its low cost. It is produced in clandestine laboratories.-

LSD(Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) is a hallucinogenic chemical discovered accidentaly by a doctor (I think it was Hoffer, but could be wrong) in 1947. It tricks the brain into seeing and hearing things that aren't there, and trips can be very realistic. A trip can last from between 8 to 12 hours, which is might seem a long time, but for the person using the LSD it passes even more slowly. Your mood can regulate a trip- if the user has any problems in their life this can be magnified when tripping to produce a nightmarish experience- however at least when you have a nightmare and it gets really hairy you wake up- with LSD (also known as Acid) you have to ride out the 12 hours, so this is one reason why it can be so devastating on someone's mental health. There is also the possibilty of flashbacks - revisiting the trip- for up to at least 7 years following use- these can come on very unexpectedly and have similarly scary consequences. One individual, having not taken any for 3 years, was in working in an old peoples home when there was a fire drill. He then suffered a flashback, thought he saw flames and broke both his legs jumping from the top floor- this is a documented fact. LSD really come to prominence in the 1960's with Ken Kesey and his Electric Kool Aid Experiment and the likes of Dr Timothy Leary who coined the phrase "Tune in, turn on, drop out". More and more mental health issues are being associated with LSD- it is probably responsible for more people ending up in assylums than any other drug.

Maybe because it is so potent, you hallucinate for 8-12 hours. The other drugs wear off in an hour or two.
