If you mean a 13/14/15/16 year old girl then the adult is a perv unfortunately there are a lot of those types of grown ups about.
if we are talking an 18 year old girl and a 30 something man then it could be because it makes him feel younger. Now if we are talking an 18 year old and a 25 year old then that is not that much of a gap.
you have not mentioned the older woman that has a crush on a teenage boy!! If you had the answer would be the same.

Because men are biologically driven to want young, fertile women to raise children for them. Most guys have a brain and can override this, but some neandrethallish pervs are on the loose.

Because they're perverts to the nth degree!
These men have such low self-esteem and/or controlling issues that they don't even try to get involved with people their own age.
They'd rather go after young girls and mess up their minds, hearts, and spirits.
Shame on them. Shame on them all!

because they are human. adults feel attraction. attraction doesn't recognize age...having a crush is very different from acting on what someone feels. you can't help having a crush, but you can help acting on it.

They look at it as easy pickings. I have no interest in these silly young *** girls. Many of them barely even know their own bodies yet and they are still developing.
I have to have a fully grown woman, with T&A and knows what she likes.

HOW adult and HOW teenage? 25 year olds with 18 year old girls isn't unheard of.
A lot of guys have a sort of school girl fantasy I suppose, most of them wouldn't act on it with actual school girls though.

Young girls' skin is smoother, and higher chance they are virgins. They are more naive and easily to be cheated and tempted.
