Two primary reasons:

1- to prove that He was God
2- to show what awaits His faithful Christians in heaven

because he wanted people to live long so that they may fulfil their purpose on earth.
there were no conditions, but he required faith.
they believed in him and continued to serve him.

but then again my friend you need to understand that a human body was not designed to get sick.
read the new testament then you'll understand why he did whar he did.

How do you know he did? I don't believe the propaganda that's been fed to us for two thousand years. Just because people repeat something, it doesn't make it true.
