A few weeks ago I was staying over at a male friend's flat, and we've had feelings for each other for ages. We ended up in bed together but it happened so fast I wouldn't sleep with him in case I'd regret it the next day. Instead we just had a wonderful night in each other's arms kissing and he said he wanted to be with me. I said I needed time and space to think about it because I was afraid to commit. He's 12 years older than me and unemployed, which my friends think is a big no-no, but when we're together I feel like we're equals and we get on so well. I'm studying at uni about an hour away from him so after some thought a week later I arranged to meet him and said I'd like to give things a go. He went all quiet and said half of him wanted to but he didn't think it could work- the age difference is too big. If it was such a big issue why did he pursue me in the first place? It's never had any bearing on our friendship. He's also still texting and emailing me quite a bit...

.. and being really nice. After the talk a couple of weeks ago we agreed to be friends but I know he still likes me. How can he go on texting me nearly every day as if everything's just fine? Can he have just switched off his feelings for me like that- because I certainly can't for him. I don't know what to do next- we had pre-arranged to go out with friends at Christmas so I'll probably see him then, but we haven't seen each other or arranged to since he said things couldn't work. I'm just so confused, if our friendship was going to be ruined anyway might we not as well give things a go?
