I took some photo's of my cats recently. The red eye in one cat is much more prominant than my other cats eyes - in every photo! Im sure I read somewhere that a lot of read eye or no read eye can mean a medical problem??

Any info appreciated.

I found it! it actually refers to humans but would it not also refer to pets too in the same situation? :

The most easily recognised sign of retinoblastoma is an abnormal appearance of the pupil, which reflects light as a white reflex, like a cat's eye at night.

"Leukocoria" is usually only visible in dim light, or in photographs where a flash has been used.

Flash photography can cause the eye to appear red. Although some people prefer to take photographs with a camera that has “red eye reduction”, checking for a red eye in photography is actually an important way to determine if the eye is healthy.

The retina is full of blood vessels which nourish the eye. When you take a photograph with a flash, the flash light expands the pupil, allowing the camera to pick up the red glow of the retina.

when I say 'red eye' I mean the red eye that shows up in photography. Not a sore red eye.

Hi there...the red colour comes from light that reflects off of the retinas in their eyes. The retina has a special reflective layer called the tapetum lucidum that acts almost like a mirror at the backs of their eyes. If you shine a flashlight or headlights into their eyes at night, their eyes shine back with bright, white light. Therefore, at times one eye will appear more more red in photos than another since the light is directly centred on the tapetum lucidum.

This is absolutely normal in photography, whether it's humans or animals. It has no indication on your cat's health - it's normal. Just one of the joys of flash photography which is why every photo shop has a tool to remove red-eye from the picture. Nothing to worry about. at all. :)

i do no longer understand of a organic pink eyed cat as a breed yet some Persians have deep copper colored eyes that are style of pink. Is he a protracted-hair? And do you mean the iris of his eyes or the lids or the area that's meant to be white? there are various good cat books that have charts exhibiting the countless eye colorings. verify your interior of reach library to be sure if your cat's eyes look like the countless ones there.

I've known cats with different colored eyes (one blue, one green) or the gene for different colored eyes to have this- if you're worried, take fuzzy to a vet.
