Page Setup lets you apply your changes to the whole document, the selected section, or just the selected text. Word will automatically create a section for you when you adjust the margins for selected text. Until you create a section, Word considers the whole document as one section.

All default formatting in Word begins with styles. You can't get away from them; they are always there, even if you try to ignore them. If you create new styles, you are creating new "default" formatting that can be applied to various elements of your document.

Make some manual changes to fix this. adjust top, bottom, and side margins by dragging the boundary on the rulers between the white and gray portions of the ruler (Print Preview) or by using the Page Setup dialog. then set as Default (see on the bottom right of Page Set up dialog box).

I believe if you go tothe first pull down on the right: Files>Page Set up, one of the tabs has margins where you can change your margins on all sides. You can also change your margins using Print Preview and some of the buttons there. You can also adjust the margins on the ruler above the word document where you write if you've activated it If you would like to activate it, you can do it though the view pull down
