Yoga is great for martial arts and I have recommended it in several answers in this forum just for that reason. It is one of the first places that I learned about slow static type stretching and coordinating your breathing with the stretching to get a more efficient stretch back in the mid 70s. Back then much of the stretching and warming up was the ballistic type and not as effective for building and increasing flexibility. It was not uncommon to have pulled muscles, aches, and pains and I am not talking from the contact or training-just the stretching would do that. If you do Yoga for any length of time you will find that it is actually a very intense workout and the postures and poses all have significant meaning and impact on various organs, muscles, nerves, and different portions of your body. The increase in your flexibility is just one of the other aspects that is dramatically affected and improved as a result of doing Yoga and that there are different types of Yoga much like there are different types or styles of Karate.

Yes, Yoga and Karate has very similar workout, and breathing exercise, both made for internal fitness,
In history Karate come from Kung fu, which introduce by bodhidharma a legend from south india in 527AD to china,
so, history tells kung fu and karate are based on indian Kalari and yoga( you can check it).

Without going into a half-a**ed history lesson, the flexibility and general fitness benefits will very much carry over and improve your performance for karate.
You're definitely on the right track by cross-training.
Good luck and keep up the good work!
