The answer is no though, they sometimes check your weapon to make sure it's in good condition, and that the serial number isn't filed off, but they won't bother to call the FBI over it.
But! if you get pulled over on your way to or from the range, a LEO could very well run the serial number.

Sure, as long as an adult is with you. Check out Top Gun Range. They have a lot of rental weapons. They are close to Richmond and Fountainview. If you're not on the Southwest side there's other ranges. Most of the indoor ranges in town have rental weapons. The outdoor ones don't.

most don't however, do go into a range unloaded,with either the slide pulled back or barrell open, or have gun in a case, must be atleast 18yrs without parent and have some id,usually its 10.00 pr hr + cost of paper target,eye protection, ear protection and bullets if you don't have your own.

i have been to ranges all over texas.none have asked anything about the guns.they make you show a license and that is it.
