"There are many strengths in the book" is grammatically correct, but to me "The book has many strengths" sounds better.

I don't think a "strength" can be "in" a book, no. It has to be "of" a book. But like Graham, I would definitely prefer "The book has many strengths."

Yeah
but.....
"There are many strengths in the book," is however not a question
although
Are there many strengths in the book? is a question

Sorry, it sounds rather foreign to me. People and systems have strengths and weaknesses, but this is a book. I would say: "The book has many strong points."

It should be 'this' not 'the'.
