I have nothing againts her but i'd rather go early and shop alone. This way, i can cover all the shops i want and not have to wait for anyone. My husband is going elsewhere and will not go near the mall.

Just go with her but tell her you intend to do your shopping while she does hers. Tell her you have a lot of area to cover and arrange to meet at a certain place at a certain time for lunch.

Or go earlier and tell her to meet you for lunch and then you can arrainge to meet later for a coffee break.

You probably have cell phone to connect when the time is right.

It is ALWAYS better to be truthful and also give a little.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to shop alone, but how often do you ever have a day to do some shopping with your mother in law? I mean she is wanting to go with 'you' and no one else. That should tell you that she enjoys your company and probably has fun with you. Who cares if she is slow. If she gets tired, she can always sit on a bench and rest while you go into the stores. Next time, you tell your husband that he is going shopping with her. Take turns!

Or, you can just plainly say what you said here. She might get hurt. Something to think about.

Tell her exactly what you just told us. Maybe sugar coat it a little first though. How can she argue with you having a lot of shopping to do and not having time to deal with anyone else. It isn't like you are ditching her to go with someone else.

Sorry but that sounds a little selfish. Why can't you shop on your own some other time and make time for your mother in law?

Quickly make plans with a friend to do something else - anything else!! Then you can politely decline with previous engagement or just tell her you're really not up to any shopping esp this black weekend!!! :)
