so can i turn off the digital zoom on the camera and just use the opticale ? or is it all used together, and i need to get a lowere digital zoom but higher opticale? thanks...

yeah, the optical zoom does not diminish pixel quality. Digital zoom is just like zooming on your computer, as you zoom in it gets more choppy.
Some cams, like mine, can turn off the digital zoom. Otherwise, the first half or so of the zoom will be optical, and the last half is digital. Some cams, if you cant turn the digital off, the bar is seperated so you can see where your optical zoom ends and the digital begins.

Optical zoom is one of the main feature of any camera. Most camera will have optical and digital zoom feature available, you can always ignore how good is the digital zoom but only concern how good is the optical zoom in the camera. Yes it can be used together as well as restrict it to use optical zoom only in the camera.

You heard correctly. Ignore the "digital zoom" (unless you're into really lousy image quality) and use the optical zoom.

yeah, optical uses the lense and digital just makes the picture look closer
