I live with my mother and little brother and sisters. I am a 16 year old mother. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was legal for me to move out of my mothers house. (I live in Missouri) I am fully capable of taking care of my daughter and myself. Which I have been, along with my 7 other brothers and sisters. I have been watching and taking care of them since I was 8 years old.(There was 3 of them when I started out all under the age of 5) My daughter and I need to get out, I have my own child to raise and I feel like I have no time for her because I am too busy raising my mothers.I need to have time for myself and daughter. School, work, housing would not be a problem. I just need to know; If I do move is it legal? And if I did move out would they take me back to my mothers house?(if she sent the police) I need to know all of this because the last thing I would want is for my daughter to be taken from me, for my mom calling me a runaway. Any information would help. Thank you.
^_^

Complete your schooling and graduate.
It is hard to get a decent job without that sheepskin.
See what you can qualify for in the way of community college financing on your own so you can get better skills to better support yourself and your child.

You can move out when you are 18. Chances are, nobody will question it at 17.

What you need to do is get all those other people in the house to pick up after themselves.
It isn't fair to have you doing it all.
Draw up a duty roster and have a family meeting... each person will be assigned to clean up after themselves and then 1 or 2 household maintenance chores... and each thing has to be done on a certain day. Anyone who doesn't comply will be grounded and have to do double the next week.

There is no reason why 2 different people can't make dinner each night... pair an older person up with a younger one... to teach... one prepares meat, the other makes a salad and sets the table... you get the idea.

Hello Lilly!
I am also a resident of Missouri too, so nice to meet you.
Lilly, I know you mentioned moving out at 16 maybe, but the law says you cannot until you are of age, which is 18! The other thing that you have to keep in mind too is that if you did move out with your child, how would you support the both of you? I hope you really think this thing out clearly! Good luck to you and your daughter too!!

im 17 and about to have a son in 3 weeks. i have been fighting with the courts for the longest time to move out of my mothers house. i'm not sure how it is in missouri but i know that here in california its illegal to move out until you're 18. you can petition the court and try to get emancipated which u can do as young as 15. as long as u can financially support yourself and can reason with the court that it would be in your best interest, then u can be emancipated and therefore move out. if u moved out and she called the police they would return u to ur mothers custody. dont run off cuz thats all bad and you could risk losing your daughter...go thru the courts and try to become emancipated

The legal age of consent in Missouri is 17 according to everything I could find on the subject. I would verify that with your local courthouse or police dept.

18 unless your pregnant or can prove to a judge that you are capable of caring for yourself physically, financially and have good reason for wanting to be emancipated such as alcoholic parents etc you would still have to attend school though

There were a few emancipated guys in my high school, they went to school but worked after school and on weekends and they shared an apt. They all did better on their own in all areas than with their alcoholic and pill head parents.

It can take some real effort but you can get emancipated but you better have no history of any drug abuse, crimes, good grades, and real motivation and be able to show real neglect of you in your home.

It depends on circumstances. Talk to a school counselor, you may be able to become emancipated. You may also want to think about how are you going to support your self and a child on your own and finish your education. If you have other living arrangement options, an aunt or grandparent you may want to consider that.

nope you have to be 18 in order to legally move out without the police being able to force you back, the same law goes for any state including NY

I don't know, but I forwarded a link to your question to my friend in Missouri. She is a police officer and might be able to answer. Good luck.
