i am trying to wean and/or transition to a cup. baby will take 2 bottles (8 ounces total per day max) from grandma and the baby sitter, but only from a bottle with a gerber orthontics rubber nipple. i have tried all sorts of bottles/nipples shape, sippy cups, colored bottle, not see through, heated various temps and cool, iced, blended with fruit, rice milk, soy milk, flavored soy, mixed breastmilk combo. when my husband or i give her any sort of milk in the sippy cup, cup without lid, or bottle, she will not drink it. she will drink water and juice from a sippy cup or bottle from everyone. we can feed her cheese and yogart. this is making weaning hard and transitioning from bottle to cup hard. any other advice on me, the mother (or father) getting her to drink milk? she is small, in the 7th percentile of the growth chart. PLEASE HELP!

My daughter was the same way.
The only advice I can really give is PERSISTENCE!
It's tough. They do not like to take anything but the breast from mom! Makes us special!
Good luck...oh, and my kids are 20, 19, 18, 14 and 11...and they did break from the breast long before kindergarten...I'm trying to be lighthearted here...but my point is, it will happen with repeating the offer of the cup. Don't offer the bottle...that will just be another weaning battle later on!
Good luck!

I feel like you are describing me and my daughter. Every detail is exactly the same: I breastfed for 15 months; she wouldn't take a bottle full or milk from me, etc. I gave her lots of yogurt and cheese to make up for the milk she wouldn't drink with me and she was very small (due to genetics), even below the charts. My daughter will be 3 in January. She loves milk and is in the 40th percentile. Don't worry too much. The yogurt does wonders. Also, her pediatrician had me start giving her liquid multivitamins for toddlers. I also stopped stressing about the bottle issue and let her have one a lot longer than she should have but she never had bottles before because I breastfed her. Good luck!

There should somewhere you can go locally for
this advice like a child and maternal welfare service.
It seems you've tried everything.
All I can suggest is time will resolve this.
She will have depend on grandma and your baby
sitter for a while.
Not sure why she won't drink for her dad.
This is probably the last thing you want to do
but if necessary just keep breast feeding her
for another six months only reduce the number
of feeds to a minimum.

Have you tried a straw cup? It's the only one not listed.
In the meantime, make sure she gets plenty of cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese. Keep offering milk in a cup (she doesn't need a bottle), hopefully she will catch on. If she's getting enough fluids, calcium, and protein from other sources, she doesn't actually need the milk.

Sounds like she still needs to nurse. What's the rush?
