Ok, I am in my second year at the University of Memphis and I was staying at a dorm my first semester but that didn't work out (My roommate was smoking crack and weed in my room and the cops caught him and he didnt get kicked out so I moved back home). The thing is that I am basically cutting myself off from my parents because of personal problems and I have to move into an apartment. However, I have a car note and bills that I have to pay along with the rent and utilities. My dad makes an *** load of money so I was really limited on how much I could get from federal loans the first year but now Im moving out I dont have his help. Does that mean I can get more money from fed loans or what? I am at a loss for what to do and I have to be out by Jan. 1st. I have NO IDEA what needs to be done and this is without a doubt the worst holiday season of my freaking life... If anyone has sugestions about other loans I could get or anything please help me out.

Thanks,
Grant

Why are you asking this on Yahoo ANSWERS when you SHOULD be asking this question from the FINANCIAL AID people at your SCHOOL?... assuming you want a REAL answer, that is.

If you are under the age of 24, then it does not matter where you live or what your circumstances are-you parents are still responsible for a percentage of your education costs, which means less fine aid for you-still.

But, you can always take out loans, though, regardless of how much money you or your parents have. Just fill out the FAFSA.

Most banks offer student loans at decent rates, but I would be weary of private loans, though-the rates can be through the roof.

Just remember that with loans you should only borrow what you need, and not what you want. Pay back, in this case, really is a b***h.

Unfortunately, you are cutting yourself off from your parents (from the language you used, it sounds as if you are making this decision). Many times, you can apply for a dependency override due to estrangement from your parents. This would make you independent (therefore you would not report your parent's earnings on the FAFSA). However, if you are the one choosing to cut off contact with your parents, this will not apply.
If you can prove that your parents are abandoning you (and not the other way around), your school might let you become an independent student. It's a long shot really, but some schools will do it.

Go see your Financial Aid advisor and explain to them what your situation is. Normally your F/A is based on last years income tax statement. If your financially covered for the Spring semester, then you will have to submit a copy of your tax report when you reapply in the summer. On your own usually gets the full tution resources (Pell) and availability to at least 2 federally funded student loans.

Well first of all you need to get a good paying job, and if that doesn't help get 2 or 3 jobs, or collect aluminum coke cans.

Look for another apartment around town. Don't live with that same roommate anymore.

You are wrong for cutting yourself off form your parents, it says in the BIBLE to RESPECT your PARENTS. And Jesus says to FORGIVE and FORGET. I don't care how mad my parents are at me, I don't care how mad I am at them, I still love them. Your parents are not perfect, AND YOU ARE NOT PERFECT EITHER. SO LET THEM MAKE MISTAKES TOO.

And NO, Christmas and New Years Day is not the worst day. It is a bad day if you want to look at it like that.

What you need to do is that You need to pray cause Jesus can handle all of this.

The university will have a financial aid office. It will have people who are qualified to help you. No one on YA can answer your questions.
One good start-sell the car and buy something you can pay for up front. If you are poor, you can't afford a car payment. Even better-buy a bicycle.
