When God told certain people not to be with foriegners, does that mean foriegn to the faith or serving other gods or different ethnicities?

Honestly, I can't remember the exact verse. It seems like I read Solomon was with several different foriegners like it was a bad thing.

BTW....I'm not encouraging prejiduce....I was married to someone foriegn to my ethnicity and my faith.

At the time it was both. There are many places in the old testament where God instructs His people through the prophets not to mix with other races. But this was not simply because they were another race, but because these other races worshiped other Gods, and Jehovah did not want the Israelites to be drawn away from the worship of the one true God.

However, after Christ's death and resurrection, He commanded that the Gospel be taken to "the ends of the earth" and preached to "all people." So now, rather than an issue of race, it is an issue of faith.

2 Corinthians 6:14 sums it up best: "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

Which verse is this, cause there are many different translations for the same verse. If you can find the verse it can be looked up into the original language, which helps in identifying the precise meaning. This is important cause sometimes foreigner is used for a word that could mean Greek or heathen in another translation. Remember were just reading someone's version of the original text.

Dear Friend,

Because you have not quoted the biblical chapter and verse, it's difficult to understand what your precise question is.

However, let me share with you this bit of insight. God had set rules for His chosen people the Israelites. One of which, they were not to have anything to do with nor intermarry with foreigners (non-Israelites).

The reason being...the foreigners were worshiping other gods and therefore, they would teach these detestable customs and religions to the Israelites who would soon adopt them and turn away from Jehovah God. The real true living God. He knew that the Israelites would turn away from Him and begin serving foreign gods, which is exactly what happened, and is happening today.

I hope this information has been helpful.

Sincerely in Christ Jesus,

lostnsavd...

This is a principle found in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. In the OT Israel was told not to be "unequally yoked" with other nations. In the NT christians are told that they are not to be "unequally yoked" in marriage, business, or spiritually.

Just as oil and water don't mix, neither do believers and unbelievers. For those that have entered into an "unequal yoke", either marital, business, or spiritual is it a recipe for disaster.

I take it, that you are quoting a passage from the Old Testament books, from the Holy Bible ? What the instruction to the Israelites, in the Old Testament, was to keep themselves from forming marriages with those, outside the Tribes of Israel, to prevent the Israelites from following both, the customs and practices of the foreign nations around them.
Moses was attempting to prevent the sacrifice of babies to pagan gods, and drinking of blood, etc., which those foreign nations practiced. Did the ancient Israelites listen ... of course not !

He told the Jewish people not to inter marry with non -Jewish people because He knew that the people would be lead astray to false Gods. The Bible still gives strong advice not to be unequally yoked in marriage. Meaning to only marry a person of you faith with the same believes and more to the point the same strength in their beliefs as yours.

it is meant to believe that the couple should share the same God / faith ... this understanding can divide a lot of households. a husband and wife should be in a total agreement with each other and it is best for them to agree before a marriage. it helps with less conflict . husband and wife are a partnership ... but husband is told to be head of household . a wife might find it difficult if her husband did not agree with how she spends her time and money at a church. a husband might find it difficult to lead or try to make his wife attend a church if she is not at the same place he it as.

I really don't know but I'd think that much of the religious interpretation in those days was governed by the culture & tradition of that time. Thats why we have the story of Jesus accept water from the Samaritan woman at the well while his Apostles looked on with shock.

what scripture is this based on? ...is it in matthews??..

if i read it correctly, as christians... christians are the foreigners on earth because our loyalty to God; our King.

we are part of this world, but not of this world... which makes christian's foreigners...

......
hmmm@ Solomon.. i think the verse ure referring to (that i cant find) was talking about God warning Solomon about foreign women. foreign as in... worshipping other Gods. Solomon actually didnt listen because he eventually fell for the foreign gals (...foreign gals as in "they worshipped other gods") ..... its nothing to do with culture or being prejudiced... it was a warning from God to Solomon...

hope that answered it... cheers!
