It's a secure server (https where the "s" stands for secure). That means the data is encrypted. That's good.
Using a credit card is safer than a debit card. This goes for any transaction, not just online.
If there is a credit card error or dispute, you are not actually out any money while it is resolved. With a debit card, your checking account is missing the money, possibly meaning you are bouncing checks all over town and incurring fees, until you catch the mistake and have the bank restore the funds.
Clark Howard, a syndicated radio consumer advocate, calls Debit cards "a piece of trash fake Visa / Mastercard" for just this reason.

Usually it's safer than handing over your card at a retailer. The only risk is hackers, which is rare, and dishonest retailers, which is rarer. The first is unique to the internet, the other can happen anytime. So, yes, I think it is safe. I've been doing it for years and have no problem. A good way around it is PayPal, but it only works on certain sites.

There are so many risky deals out there, I only use a cr. card when I am certain of the veracity of recipient. Why not a money order? Although I do believe your cc co. would forgive fraud if you got taken. I haven't had the occasion but maybe your cc card co. could verify the veracity of 'secure i power' It's all in the danger of your card # being 'out there' and the resultant massive pain in the ****.
