Here's one.
1 Corinthians 9:23 I do all things for the sake of the gospel, that I may become a fellow partaker of it.
24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.
25 And everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
26 Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air;
27 but I buffet my body and make it my slave, lest possibly, after I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.
And here is another one.
Isaiah 40:28 Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is inscrutable.
29 He gives strength to the weary,
And to him who lacks might He increases power.
30 Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
31 Yet those who wait for the LORD
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.

I was once told not to ask God that a given team/person wins and/or that a given team/person looses. I was told to pray that a given team/person preforms to the best of their ability. If I'm a wrestler I'd ask God that I could wrestle to the best of my ability. If I give it my all, 100%, and I loose, then maybe the other guy was infact better than I am. If I win maybe I'm better than he is. I'd rather it be my ability that wins the match and not some other reason--cheeting, interferance, not feeling up to par, etc. If I give it my best and rely upon my training I should be of the opinion that I'm the better wrestler and I'd ask God to let me wrestle in such a manner.

I'm assuming that you are a christian, and as such you have many privileges and responsibilites, and promises. Being a successful athlete requires sacrifice, hard work, and a desire to win the prize. This is true in the spiritual realm as well as the physical. (Romans 12:1,2)
As a believer:
You have the privilege of praying to God
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. " (Philippians 4:6)
You have the responsibility of serving God.
"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ." (Colossians 3:23-24)
You have promise of attaining a prize. The Apostle Paul uses many athletic metaphors in his writings.
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forward to those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 3:13,14.)
If you're not a christian, God says; "See ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you."

Deuteronomy 20:4: For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory."
Ephesian 6:12: For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Philippians 4:13: I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Re-read David & Goliath...
That little sucker took down the biggest guy around with a kid's slingshot, and well-aimed nicely rounded stone...
And everybody else was too chicken to take him on...

Wrestling is highly homoerotic sport, so I suspect you'd be stoned to death if you lived in the biblical Palestine.
I guess that's a "sort" of motivation in itself, isn't it?
