Hopefully he does not have upper respiratory infection....make sure he isn't sneezing a lot....this can pass to your other cat without direct contact....and it must be cured with antibiotics..
He probably broke his tail at some point in his life, which is why it might be deformed...
He could also have other diseases since he is not vaccinated like worms, fleas, distemper, heartworms (not only dogs get them)
Keep him well away from your other animals until you get the all clear from the vet....
Kudos for bringing in a stray..

He could have an upper respritory infection, which is contagious (my cat just had one and had the leaky closed eyes). He may also have other problems like FIV or worms, which are contagious. Take him to the vet and get him tested before letting him near your other pets or in your home. Many vets or SPCA's will do this for less or no money if you explain the situation.

Yes he has problems that could transfer to your animals. Go to the vet and see if he will let you pay in 2 weeks. Because in 2 weeks you may be take 3 animals with eye infections.
tail under means he is frightened and shy. That will come up when he gets to know you.

Oh yeah.. you need to make sure you QUARANTINE him!! Wash your hands after handling. At the very least it sounds like he may have an upper respiratory (highly contagious) or even worse yet Herpes. (no not the kind you can get) I have no idea about his tail. For the upper respiratory he may get through it on his own but if he stops eating and drinking he needs to see a vet IMMEDIATELY. Cats cannot go a long period without eating.

sounds like the stray isnt well..
first thing is you MUST call your local SPCA or humane society or pound (whoever deals with strays in your area) and report FINDING him.. he could have a worried owner looking for him and YOU can be charged with theft if you dont...
really he should be taken to the shelter and scanned for a microchip or checked for a tattoo (usually in the ear).
if your cat is not vaccinated its probably too late now anyhow if it is an infection of some kind...
eat soup - save your money - if you are short of funds now perhaps you shouldnt be keeping this one... call your vet and ask if they work with a shelter for assistance for stray pets - then give him to the shelter..

You should keep him quarantined from your other animals until you take him to the Vet.
He shouldn't eat or drink from the same dishes as your other pets or use the same litter box.

He could have an eye INJURY and not an infection. Can you take him to a no-kill shelter since you don't have the funds to take it to a vet so they can provide vet care and hopefully save his sight (and maybe even the eyeball itself) in that eye?
Can you ask your regular vet to bill you so you can pay later?

Then you shouldn't have it in your house. Stray cats can often be Feline Leukemia positive. This is transmissable to your other cat, incurable and DEADLY. I hope you have not allowed this cat to interact with your existing cat. If this cat has an injured eye please take it to your nearest animal shelter so they can take care of it.

The eye infection could be passed on to your other cat. I would keep him separated in another room/bathroom. It'll be easier for your other animals to adjust to him this way too.
