The .30/30 is effective out to 200 yards, whereas the .357 gets pretty wimpy by the time it reaches 100 yards. Your mention of brush implies that you might be thinking one will be a better "brush bucker." There is no such thing. Even bullets from the most powerful "elephant" rifles can be deflected by relatively small twigs.

nicely a .357 is a huge pistol around. So that's not going to fly so a great way as an easily rifle around. As for black bears bypass, i might sense safer with a larger high quality like a 30-06. The bullet is plenty extra advantageous and it does have extra of a kick, yet no longer something too undesirable I promise! as a manner to respond to you questions: Eh, i might bypass with a various high quality for deer searching. attempt a .243 or a 30-30 in case you get a wager or bypass look at a cartridge. and that i might use a larger bullet for black undergo. Like I reported up impressive, a 30-06 may well be sturdy. bypass attempt it out or look on the cartridge in case you get a wager!

Of the 2, I would pick the .30/30. If you are looking to buy something a good compromise might be lever gun in .44 magnum. So, you can still share ammo between rifle and revolver--and if you don't already have a .44 magnum, what a great excuse to buy one.

I don't know what the laws are in the Ozarks, but I was under the impression that rifles were not allowed to be used to hunt deer as the muzzle velocity of the bullets is too great and the travel distance is too far...
At least it is in Ohio...

On a perfect broadside inside 100 yards, it won't make much difference, but the 30-30 will be able to handle raking shots a lot better.

Both will do the job at the appropriate distances...
I like the idea of a rifle and pistol in the same caliber, but
can't find a pistol in 30-30. :-)

Pardon my ignorance but isn't a .357 magnum a revolver and not a rifle? A rifle would be better, of course (depending on whose point of view).
