I'm sorry for your loss. Losing a pet and friend is very difficult and a hard thing to go through. Hopefully all the wonderful memories you have of him will help you through your grief. Here's a nice little poem for you.
Treasured Friend
I lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
His gentle head upon my knee
And share his silent thoughts with me...
He'll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more his favorite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called him to His golden throne.
Although me eyes are filled with tears,
I thank Him for the happy years
He let him spend down here with me
And for his love and loyalty.
When it is time for me to go
And join him there, this much I know...
I shall not fear the transient dark
For he will greet me with his bark.

At least you know your dog had lived a good life and had actually lived long enough to enjoy it. You should feel proud you took care of it, and treated it so well because there's a lot of nasty dog owners out there who don't consider their pets for anything. My doggy died not long ago after my friend had adopted her. Apparently, it was a peaceful death, she died under their bridge in their backyard by a stream. And all her other dogs gathered around and kinda mourned, heh.
Anyways. Good luck with everything<3

I'm sorry. Dogs become family and when you lose one....you grieve just as you would losing human family. When you are healed, go find a shelter and give a nice life to a dog who has no one else. That would be a great tribute to the one you can't have anymore.

This has got to be a genuine stomper to deal with !!
I have had numerous dogs in my lifetime -- each of them special to me beyond meer words ! I have grown somewhat accustomed to having to go through this loss thing --- I said accustomed -- I didn't say it was easy !!
Some say "they are like family" -- to me -- they ARE family -- and I wouldn't have it any other way !
I am extremely saddened by this loss for you -- my only words of any comfort here -- are simply to remember what a blessing that you had in having him for so many years !! And, the memories that will linger far into the future of all of the special moments of such a true and lasting friendship !!

That's very sad. He was real old, wow. Although I have had a few dogs die as well, it doesn't make it any easier. I dread the day my Cadence dies. It always makes me think of 'Where the Red Fern Grows' when someone loses a dog. My condolences.

I am so sorry that you have lost your precious dog. I have lost a few over the years myself. Talking about your dog will help to ease the pain a little, time will help too. Do you have pictures of your dog that you could share with us? Or stories about your dog?

I know just how you're feeling we had a cat for nine years he was part of the family. he knew when I wasn't feeling well because he'd lay right next to me. The kids wanted another cat so we got a kitten last Oct. and this cat doesn't even come close to my baby. my children cried, we watched him get put down that was hard My heart goes out to you. but you'll always have the wonderful memories of your dog.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It can't be easy to let go of 17 years worth of memories. It sounds like he was very well loved and likely loved you and your family just as much. Hang in there, and don't let anybody make you feel like you aren't supposed to mourn for a pet.

Get yet another canines. Like people, canines get emotionally related to a minimum of one yet another. Your older canines replaced into like an older sibling on your 2 year previous canines. you will desire to take your canines on walks, and perform a little exciting stuff together with her or him. Like get it a clean toy of that is well-liked sort. and then get a clean canines. however the recent canines would desire to be slightly older than the greater youthful one, so it supplies the greater youthful one the sensation of an older sibling around lower back. P.S., i'm sorry approximately your loss. wish you and your canines sense greater useful

You must be a good owner and he must have been a healthy dog. I am very sorry for your loss. We lost our 16 y. o. spaniel last year. Our 12 y. o. Pyrenees seems to be having more problems every day.
