I have very large breasts (38 I)and the other day I was giving myself my self exam, I found a lump. It's very close to the skin, and feels like one of those seed beads. I'm 26 years old. I'm just wondering, does cancer grow that close to the skin, and would it be that easily detected by me? I had my physical about 5 months ago, could it grow that fast? Last year my mom had lumps that weren't cancer, but had the potential of becoming cancer if they weren't removed. As far as I know, that's the only cancer scare that we've had in my family..Someone please help!!

I made myself an appt. with my doc. today, I go in about 2 hours. Thanks to every one for showing concern for someone you don't even know. I have been putting off making the appt since last Fri, and you gave me the courage to go ahead and do it. I won't have the results of the mammogram until Friday, so I won't know anything definate until then. Thanks for helping me!!

It will probably turn out to be nothing, but it is better safe than sorry. Go to your doctor for an examination and tell him exactly what it is you fear. And, unfortunately the answer is yes . . cancer can grow inside the body, under the skin, or on top of the skin . . just about anywhere. Cancer also grows extremely fast . . five months is a long time in the cancer world . . so the fact nothing was there five months ago means nothing today . . that's how fast cancer can occur. My sons cancer can grow in as little as 28 days . . so take nothing for granted . . go have the lump checked out. Hopefully it will be nothing and the lesson you will learn is to always check every single odd lump or bump out as soon as possible.
Best to you.

Of course my first advice is to see a doctor, it's never a good idea to wait it out and see if it goes away. In the mean time I would suggest that you stop drinking caffeine, it's the worst thing you can do for your breast and health for that matter. And yes cancer can be that close to the skin, and yes it can be that easy for you to find it. I found mine, and then had a mammo and it never did show up on it. But, had an ultra sound done and found something that could be cancer, however they said it didn't look like it was. My doctor God Bless him said it was a lump and he wanted it out just in case. It was and I am fine now, so don't play with something like this, get it taken care of. I know you will be happy that you did. It's always better to be safe than sorry. I have been cancer free now for 14 years, thanks to my God.

Kudos to you for doing your exam firstly and secondly you need to have a doctor examine your breast to make sure that it is not just normal breast tissue. Secondly, alot of women your age get fibroid tumors that are not cancerous but have to be biopsied. There is no growth rate for a tumor or cancer or even a cyst. And yes, a growth can basically occur anywhere it wants to, deep in the tissue or just under the surface.
Basically, you need to see a doc, don't put it off, have this taken care of. Most especially since your Mom had lumps. Not to say that what you have is cancerous but please note that some cancers are hereditary and early detection is the very best way to combat it. My best to you

Yes, sometimes cancer can grow that close to the skin for some women but sometimes too the skin in that area can make it seem like the mass is bigger than it really is. This happened to my mom when she got diagnosed with breast cancer.
I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation of the lump to see what they say.

At that age, breast are more often than not lumpy and thick seeing that of hormones. Tell her to not be scared. Breast melanoma moves females after or in the course of menopause, She has an extended option to pass OK. Tell her to not be doing self assessments at her age. She's regularly going to suppose lumps.

My daughter who is 28 also had a similar scare and found out that she has cysts in her breast. But she went to her doctor to make sure as her father died from breast cancer and now I have it. But you should go to your doctor to make sure as there are some young women who develop cancer.

you have to see a dr to get a diagnosis, it usually isn't cancer
there are many reasons to get breast lumps but the most serious is cancer that's why you shouldn't ignore it . make an appointment to be seen and hopefully it isn't cancer .

When in doubt get it checked out. We went through a scare last year with my wife. Turns out they were just cysts. Some of them they cut out and some they just drained and they went away but better safe then sorry!!!
