Mestizo is one of the social stratifications in Mexico. The statifications are: The highest is the Spanish born in Spain. The next are the people of Spanish parents born in Mexico. Mestizo is the mixing of the Spanish and Indian. The mixing of the Spanish and the black come next. Then comes the indian. Then the indian an the black and finally the black. It's a racial construct used for economic convenience for the Spanish conquerers and for them to hold power.

I think you are referring to the term, "mestizo".
A "mestizo" refers to most people in Mexico
or, in the U.S., to Hispanic people. In both cases,
they refer to people of both Spanish and Native
American (probably mostly Aztec, I'm guessing)
ancestry.
