He has a better chance at getting a car first than you do. Your credit is jacked up, and he have no credit. Even though no credit is like bad credit, they would still be willing to give the loan to him before you. It is not good to mix good credit with bad credit. He stands a better chance at getting the car alone. So before you guys try getting a loan together, let him try first. As long as he has a job where he could pay it back, he should be good to go. You don't have to make a lot of money to be able to purchase a car. Just be sure that you find a car in the price range that you can afford. Do not go over your head, just be reasonable. Don't go beyond your standards. Good luck.

RE My boyfriend has NO credit and I have bad credit. Can we get a loan?
My boyfriend is 20 and has never even had a bank account. He makes okay money, but he cashes it every week. I am 19 and I've had a bank account since I was 14. I went to college for a year, and then decided to leave, so now I've got a bunch of open loans and only about a year of credit history. We REALLY need a loan so that we can get a car. Do we have a chance? How do we go about this? I know there are a lot of seedy places, but are there some reputable ones? Will a bank help us out?

He needs to open an account at a credit union and be responsible for 6 months. You have bad credit and people are going to rip you off. Your interest rate will be through the roof. He could have a better chance of getting a car loan through the credit union of 7 or 8 percent as opposed to you getting one at 21 percent or higher. You do not want a car loan with double digit interest. It doesn't matter that you had an account since you were 14. You have bad credit. If you can have your boyfriend's parent to cosign for him that would be best.

To be honest, not in your situation. Banks and lenders avoid those of high risk of default. But i have a suggestion that might help. Just be practical and save enough money to buy a good used car that will do the job. Find a auto repair shop that specializes in a make, like a Volvo independent shop. The reason why is that if they have a used car to sell they know what preventive maintenance and specific repairs it needs for the longevity of the car and your moneys worth.

They might help both of you. He needs to open a savings and a checking. Make deposits regular into his accounts and you should also. In 6 months maybe sooner with a co-signer you could get a auto loan, or maybe a personal loan.
