I'm an atheist and I can guarantee you, true atheists don't believe in the devil. There's two explanations for this. Either:

A.) The person is not an atheist but rather someone who's just angry and confused. So they tend to be immature and start pouring their teen angst out on anything they can get a hold of.

OR

B.) LaVeyan satanists are atheists by nature. They think of the devil as a symbol, a metaphor, for our inner desire. The term "god" in LaVeyan satanism doesn't refer to a theistic being but rather as a center, a focus - NOT a being with two horns and a tail. Yes, they perform rituals during the Black Mass and such but that's because the group, founded by Anton Szandor LaVey, was created as a negative version of Christianity. They might be branded as satanists, but trust me, that whole story about baby sacrifice, spreading evil and hurting others in random is nothing but myth.

From my own experiences, the same people who do not believe in God also believe life is just one big disappointment. They tend to hang on to negative cliches like, "there's always something that can and will go wrong," "bad things always happen to me," or "there's no point in being happy, because it won't last."

Because these people already have such a negative view of life, it's easier for them to believe that evil (the devil) is real, but that good (God) is not.

When you're feeling down, it's easier to believe that everyone is against you and that life sucks. When you're happy and optimistic, life is beautiful and good qualities can be found in everyone.

So basically, believing in the devil is more fulfilling for those types of people, because it allows them to sink deeper into thier own pity party.

Nope....no devil either. I've never talked to anyone with the beliefs you just described, so it must be very rare.

Added: Well there are a couple of types of Satanists. The most common uses Satan as a symbol, but they don't literally believe in him. Hope that helps.

The devil isn't the evil answer to God so much as he is a social icon. The image of the devil simply means all that is bad, naughty, negative, or unaccepted to most people.

So it's not that they believe in the EXISTANCE of the devil, they just refer to the image of what he represents.

They're being double-minded. God created the devil, who is a fallen angel that defied God. Even the devil himself acknowledges God and His power - says so right in the bible. Those who don't believe in God, but believe in Satan, then they DO believe in God because they believe in a being that God Himself created. It's a double-standard to believe in the devil, but not God.

I've often wondered that myself. I personally believe it is because they fear the devil and hell. When a person fears something it is more likely to stick in their minds. For example, when you watch a fictional scary movie, you might be scared to look under your bed or in a dark closet because you may think the monster might pop out. If you watch a happy fictional movie you won't believe that dogs can really fly.

Like who would that be? I have never heard of a single person who believed in the Devil, but didn't believe in God.

People who do not believe in God ,do not meant their believe is devil or they believe in devil. You are devil or maybe the devil control you.Forgive and forget is one of God's message .In the bible "if someone slap your right face ,then turn your left face for him to slap? What does this mean?May God bless you.

Because most people need something/someone to blame for things and since the devil is the ultimate evil, they blame him. Besides some people don't consider the devil necessarily religion related.
