That is an idiotic question. A war between the US and China is not in the interests of either country. They don't have the firepower to fight us and we don't have the numbers to occupy them anyway. We are best suited by trying to foster good relations with them and hope they continue to shift towards capitalism.

China cannot attack and invade Taiwan. They can bomb it but do not have the landing craft and fleet to accomplish a full fledged invasion. The United States is China's biggest trade partner. Do you really think that they would risk pi$$ing us off by attacking Taiwan. China needs us more than they need any other country in the world. Sit back and enjoy some lead paint and read the Bear and the Dragon by Tom Clancy.

the US will not invade China.
However, it'll defend Taiwan in the event of an attack by China.
notice the word "defend".
there will be no invasion on China.
edit:
wow....."mrknowitall" you seriously forgot to take your regularly
scheduled medication! did you seriously think before you decided to say "That shouldn't be that hard, especially considering that nobody in the US cares how many Taiwanese we kill (they all look the same to us anyway) or how much damage we do to Taiwan."
isn't that pretty stupid and childish?
and by the way, there will not be "Taiwanese setting bombs" against the US. Why would they do that, US will be defending Taiwan, not attacking/occupying.

One problem with the Iraq war is that we never really defined our objectives. Was it to find the WMD? Was it to depose Saddam? Was it to implement a constitution and a government based on that constitution and hold elections? If so, why are we still there? Apparently we had the ability to do those things, but we're still losing. WHAT are we losing? 8^)
If China were to invade Taiwan, we would have a clearer objective--getting the Chinese out of Taiwan. That shouldn't be that hard, especially considering that nobody in the US cares how many Taiwanese we kill (they all look the same to us anyway) or how much damage we do to Taiwan.
But after we get the Chinese out, are we going to stay in Taiwan for several more years and patrol the streets every day in Hummers while the Taiwanese set bombs for us and take pot-shots? Why would we do that? Why are we doing it in Iraq?

Just how many countries do you think that America can occupy at once?
I seem to remember a country once that turned on it's ally and tried to fight a large scale war on two fronts... I can't quite remember how that turned out for Germany, do you? lol...
Adding an invasion of that size to America's already large scale deployments would most likely leave the government with no choice other than to reintroduce conscription... I'm sure that would go down well...

Who says they'd have to invade China to defend Taiwan?
I'm fairly sure China's troop count is higher than that, counting reserves, the People's Armed Police and other government paramilitaries.

Darn, another college professor has brainwashed yet another naive, sponge brained child who's parents didn't warn him of the dangers of deranged professors. Next thing you know you will be marching against SOA down at Ft. Benning, GA for college credit though you won't understand why you are there.

WTF?!? Hell no.
There is no need. Plus it would be retarded for China to attack. They have too much to lose at the moment.
It would be a dumb idea to invade. It's like China invading the US... there would be a too many angry civilians with guns.... come on it's the US. I feel as though everyone has a gun here. I have 3 if anyone needs to borrow one.
