When you give your dog an old ragged shirt that you've been wearing for 12 hours, what does it mean when he sniffs it, gets hyper and plays with it, throwing it in the air, cuddles with it and starts chewing on it and runs to you expecting a treat...what does that mean?

Dogs love the scent of their humans. He was excited he got something of "yours." When owners go away for a few days sometimes they will leave their pooch with their t-shirt or blanket so they have their scent with them wherever they are staying to calm them.
The whole expecting a treat thing...I think he just added that in for fun:)

Dogs love having things that smell like you.....why do you think it's always your underwear the pull out of the laundry ....or worse yet...your used ..um...female supplies. That stuff has your scent the strongest.
When my dogs were puppies...I bought them new beds. Before I gave them the beds (so they were brand new and never used) I made a point to sit on them, lay on them...to get my scent onto the beds so they would smell a little like me. Hopefully, it would be a comfort to them when I was gone.
