Why do people type the word "profit" when they obviously mean to say "prophet"?

Because subconsciously they know prophet is profit when it comes to 'beware of the false prophet(profit)'. Money and greed is not the key to happiness as quick as it is the key to quite the opposite in gaining a false happiness..

Cute responses, many of which most likely are accurate: can't spell, think it's funny, typo, don't know the difference. Spell check wouldn't work because they have spelled another word accurately. But saying they are ignorant is rather far fetched, cruel and judgmental.

They are illiterate and or ignorant. They mean well and are typing what they have heard, and obviously have not read much about, or they would probably know how to spell it right. Last but not least, also, their spelling leaves much to be desired and spelling for them is not a top priority.
