yeah German's are usually pretty naked people. I live in Florida and if there are a large group of German people there you can almost garentee that someone will get naked in the bathroom and walk around. You have to get down right rude and nasty to get them to cover up for your kids to come in the bathroom. I mean in public swiming area's water parks places like that.

Public (or even semi-public) nudity is an individual choice, not country dictated. We have a nude beach here in San Francisco even. Some people do feel more comfortable without clothes on and if you've been raised in that type of atmosphere, you too would probably be okay being nude in front of strangers. You should let the organization who placed you with the family know that the family are nudists just so future exchange students can be prepared (or ask to be placed somewhere else)--some people would not have been as cool as you were. It'd not be a criticism or "beware" sign on the family. If a host family is providing meals to their exchange student, but the host family are heavy meat eaters and the student is a complete vegetarian, it'd be good to know in advance, that's all.

Nudity is not considered taboo in other contries like it is in the US. There are topless and nude beaches. Nudity is seen on TV. It may be different but it's not bad. I am very comfortable with my body. I walk around my house nude. I don't have children and I don't live with my parents but if my boyfriend is over, I don't find the need to cover up. It's not anything sexual it's just confortable. If that is what the family has always done they probably think nothing of it and the entire family has a healthy sense of the human body. I plan on teaching my kids that although it is not always appropriate to be nude, a naked human body is not shameful.

ya that sounds really awkward to indians while in some foreign countries its very normal...even in sweden i have heard there is a nude beach...where people roam nude...but going nude is really uncomfortable not only in front of family members but in front of friends or anyone for that case...but on the whole it totally depends on the comfortability level of the individual
